“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

My boyfriend and I recently stayed here for 5 days. What a beautiful hotel. The spa room downstairs was a great end to busy days. There is a pool in the spa as well as on the terrace. The staff were friendly and very accomdating. The terrace breakfast, although slightly pricey is worth at least once, the views from the terrace while eating were breathtaking. The breakfast buffet served in the restaurant had every imaginable food to eat. There was food everywhere and it was delicious. We can't say enough positive things about this hotel. Great location on La Rambla was easy to walk to the old part of the city and new part. Although the city streets were busy at night we experienced on issues with noises from the streets.

Stayed between 20-24 Sept. Excellent location on the Rambla. The best way to arrive is to take the airport bus to Catalunya Plaza and from there walk five minutes to H1898.
The hotel, in the building of the former Philippines Tobacco Company, is decorated beautifully in colonial style. I particularly liked the idea of black and white movie films shown in the Lobby and the photos of Philippines on the walls all over the hotel. Our room was on the fourth floor overlooking P.Fortuny Street. It was a quiet and comfortable room with top quality amenities.
The breakfast was a feast and the tapas of La Isabella were delicious. La Isabella, the roof terrace, is an ideal place to have a romantic dinner. The Barcelona skyline, the soft music and the soft light, together with the tall plants here and there, created the right atmosphere.
Highly professional staff provided top quality service. Every member of the staff was friendly and ready to help the guests. We highly appreciate their attitude and we thank the manegement and the staff of H1898 for making our stay a pleasant and unforgetable one.

by the many travellers who praised the location, rooms, facilities, the building, the rooftop(book a lounger with a view one evening..order a bottle of cava.......and relish the moment) and particularly the people; their discreet attention that will on request turn in to full support and advice was exceptional. We had a room overlooking Las Ramblas and noise wasn't a problem. We then splashed out and booked a 5th floor room with its own balcony........ask for the room with the super kingsize sun lounger....amazing!!

Beautifully decorated hotel in a great location. Hotel staff was very professional and helped us navigate the city by giving us directions, restaurant recommendations and making reservations for us. Our room was well appointed, large enough, quiet and had everything we needed. The breakfast offerings were fabulous with everything you could possibly want. The location on La Rambla was special as you could walk to many sites on our list or just sit and relax at the many outdoor cafes. We so enjoyed the rooftop bar at night where we could take in the calmness and beautiful view of Barcelona at night. I felt very pampered and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Barcelona.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Calle Pintor Fortuney, the side of the hotel, are probably quieter than those facing La...

Stayed here for 3 nights, arrived early after transatlantic flight, room was ready, very clean and modern. Loved the rooftop terrace, great view and place to relax. Pool was cold ! Street noise was not an issue even though right on La Rambla.

We spent 3 nights at H1898 in August with our two kids, 11 and 14. We were actually warned about the area being too noisy, and that we would not want to stay on the Ramblas, but, surprisingly, our room was very quiet and we really enjoyed being in the middle of it all. The kids loved being able to walk the Ramblas at night and the windy cobblestone roads behind the Ramblas with all the great little shops. It was a fantastic location. We also walked to the port one day and went to the aquarium and ate lunch on the water. The rooms are large enough, and the hotel is very dark and modern. There is a lovely rooftop with a small pool, and you can enjoy breakfast and/or drinks up there. The hotel is also very close to the Bocqueria, which is amazing. The staff was nice, and helpful. I thought the price was very reasonable, and would definitely reccommend the hotel and as well as stay here again!

My husband and I just spent the last 4 nights of our honeymoon at 1898. Aside from the fact that the front desk didn't care that it was our honeymoon we had an enjoyable time. The hotel is a bit dark but lovely, clean and comfortable. Even though it is right on the Rambla it was quiet and the roof top terrace bar was a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle below. Typical hotel prices for drinks etc...
Hotel front desk staff were lovely and helpful, aside from the first woman who checked us in. Having to leave a $25 deposit for an umbrella was a bit funny, but not a huge deal. Would recommend the hotel for those wanting to be in the thick of things.
