“Catalan tradition gives this five star hotel its edge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

We stayed at the five star Casa Fuster as part of a cruise deal for just one evening so cannot comment on the room rate pricing. The hotel is well placed and a fabulous building. The public rooms are Gaudi –esque. If you are a fan of the fantastic Catalan genius be sure to take a look at the wonderful carved wood seats in the hotel’s reception area. The public rooms are fantastically quirky, with dark corridors and striking lighting.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful and seemed genuinely please to tell us that we were to be upgraded to the most wonderfully understated art deco suite with a perfect view of the Passiag de Gracias.
Breakfast is served in a very large rather upmarket cellar. That said – the choice of food was superb and the service adequate.
Given a choice of a five star stay in Barcelona Casa Fuster would not be our choice, however the hotel has a very positive vibe and certainly is a unique.

Being a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, we had high experiences for this hotel but frankly we were disappointed on every count. OK, the exterior and public areas give the appearance of grandeur but this is nothing more than a veneer when you step beyond.

Starting with the check-in process, whilst functional, the staff did nothing at all to make us feel welcome. In fact I think we were a distraction. The same was true of the check-out, which was completely impersonal and mechanical. They also tried to charge us for something from the mini bar, which we hadn't had and I discovered later that they did the same with another guest.

Our room was situated on the second floor and as soon as we stepped out of the lift and into the corridor we were greeted by an overpowering musty smell. Attempts by the staff to overcome this with air freshener made no difference as it was there throughout our stay. Our room itself was small and dark, with very old and cheap furniture. The television table was chipped in various places and completely open, which meant that the cables and control box dangled untidily at the back before disappearing into a hole in the floor. The dressing room table had a large piece of wood missing from the front, exposing the cheap substrate behind.

The bathroom was small with very few places to leave anything. Access to the shower/bath was through a very cheap sliding screen, which made it very difficult to get in and out. No matter how careful we were with the shower spray, the screen leaked, which left large pools of water all over the bathroom floor. It was clear that this had been going on for some time as there were mildew type residues, where the screen joined the bath. Whenever I have stayed at other hotels of this standing, the toiletries provided are usually of quality but this was not the case here.

Our room overlooked a passageway and onto a school, which meant that throughout our stay we were troubled by children shouting or screaming during the day and boys playing on skateboards in the evening. On one particular night someone was playing drums until 10.30pm!!

Breakfast is served in an underground cave and whilst the food was fine the staff did nothing to make us feel welcome. The girl who manned the door to ask for our room number each morning was completely disinterested. As evidence, we asked her for coffee on two mornings and on each occasion she forgot to pass the request on. I should also mention that you can hear the trains thundering below you.

All in all this was a dreadful stay in a hotel which purports to be 5 star and a member of the Leading Hotels of the World but does nothing to show it, or deserve the accolade. Next time I'm in Barcelona I'll stay at the Mandarin Oriental or the Majestic.

Great hotel. The staff was great and the location is also great. We enjoyed our stay and our wifi worked fine in our room. We were able to walk to all the places we were interested in seeing in the city.

The property is a beautiful landmarked building in a wonderful part of the city. The property was originally built in the early 20th century as a private home with apartments. When they renovated the property into a hotel there were many elements of the original architecture that needed to be left untouched due to its historical nature.
This left the new hotel a little disjointed. That being said it is obvious that the owners have attempted to do everything possible to deliver a 5 star experience.
The staff is top notch and the place is really interesting and beautiful.
I would definmitely recommend staying here. If you like great architecture this is the place for you. It is a treat just to walk down the street and know this is where you are staying. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location. Many local sights are within walking distance. Metro is easy to understand and can get you anywhere. Interesting building. Very professional and helpful staff. Comfortable rooms. Can be a bit noisy at night. Some problems with WiFi in the room. Good restaurant. I would return.

What a beautiful little hotel! The rooms were very nice with wonderful bedding, great shower, and quiet. The staff were over-the-top in service and friendliness. They could not have been more attentive. Although breakfast is not included, the brunch is truly terrific. We were looking for a lighter breakfast other mornings and found the "coffee shop" right outside the hotel to be excellent, and recommended by the hotel!

We went to Barcelona for Easter weekend and were able to get to everything from the Casa Fuster. We first toured all of Barcelona by the tourist buses and then walked to everything the following days without a problem; the Cathedral, the seafront, Old Town, the Gaudi houses, etc.

I highly recommed the Casa Fuster!
