“The bed is hard as rock”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

This hotel is located in a nice area, about 30 min walk from the center of Barcelona. If you choose to take the metro, which is 10 min away from the hotel, it takes about 20 min to get downtown.

From the airport, there is an airport train going to Sants railway station every 30 min. It takes about 20 min. Then there is another 15 minutes’ walk from the Sants station to the hotel (just follow the Avinguda de Roma).

The room is modern and clean, with a very nice bathroom. The bed, however, was a big disappointment. It is probably the hardest bed I have ever slept on. Sleeping here was actually a painful experience.

The reception staff is very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for 3 nights on business. Hotel staff were very welcoming and always on hand to help, give travel advice, etc.

Rooms are very well presented, spacious and clean.

Good selection of food at breakfast, which is all buffet style.

Only negatives are that there is no restaurant in the hotel, but given the location there are loads within walking distance plus no gym or pool facilities, but quite common in city centre hotels.

We stayed at the Amister for a week; technically for a conference, but arrived a few days early to see the city before-hand.

If you're looking for somewhere to stay on holiday it's a good find, especially if you can get a decent room rate, but there were some basic facilities lacking for a decent business trip.

Good points are:
- Staff are really friendly and helpful, the guys on the desk speak virtually fluent English which helped enormously on arrival and housekeepers were lovely
- Beds are huge and comfy
- Good size bathroom
- Despite not being close to the metro it's conveniently placed for Ramblas (15/20 min walk to Placa D'Catalunya) and L'Eixample shops with buses and heaps of taxis right outside
- There's really good restaurants within walking distance
- Excellent free wifi connection
- Good size windows (that open!)

Not so good points:
- No bar
- The hotel is looking a bit rough around the edges - lots of wear and tear in the room (scuffed walls, wobbly light fittings, worn looking towels)
- Air-con was incredibly noisy; it was like having someone starting a lawn mower up in the ceiling every time it kicked in, waking us up.
- No iron, kettle or coffee making facilities in the room; not great when you're away on business
- No large glasses or cups in the rooms, just small plastic tumblers
- No hooks or washing line in bathroom
- Room was quite dark, initially I requested a room change and we were offered an alternative at the front of building for our second night. After discovering how quiet it was (i.e. sirens were barely audible with the windows open/totally drowned out with air-con on) we opted to stick with the peaceful gloom over the noisier daylight!

On balance, if we were going back to Barcelona for a long weekend, and the price was right I'd probably stay there again, but it's not great for a work trip and doesn't necessarily have the facilities you'd usually associate with a 4 star hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter, but you'll have no view Try and get a room on the higher floors

The hotel was ok, but I expected a little bit more from a 4 star one. I was disappointed in dated furniture in our room, damaged walls and very small TV. However, rooms were spacious and we had a nice, large bathroom. It was though very annoying that Wi-Fi didn’t work in our rooms, so we had to go down downstairs to use it. A least we had complementary sparkling wine over there. It was a cosy area to sit and relax but overall the reception is not impressive. Staff appeared to be invisible, and were not trying hard to be friendly or welcoming or helping out of their way. Another issue for us was that the hotel is located a bit of a walk from the metro station (around 10 min or more if you keep checking how to get there). Normally I don’t mind walking but it was a hassle at the end of a tiring day. We didn’t notice abundance of cafés and restaurants nearby but probably we didn’t know exactly where to go. Next time I would look for something located more conveniently and with a better ambience even for a bit more money.

We stayed at the Amister Hotel for 1 night following a cruise. We got off to a bad start with lashing rain on arrival in Barcelona and our taxi driver couldn’t find the hotel! When we eventually arrived we had to manoeuvre our 4 suitcases 4 steps down from the street into the reception area, there was a man and a lady behind reception who glanced up as we struggled but offered no help though the girl who was on reception later in the evening was far more friendly. The reception area is modern and functional though but it seemed kind of soulless, the staff speak good English and we checked in with no problems.
We were in room 702 which was fairly average and opened onto an atrium reaching from lobby to roof - quite noisy as all sounds carries up through the building – and we didn’t particularly like the grey decor and the bathroom door was warped possibly due to a water leak at some stage. The “view” from the room was a concrete wall opposite! It was so wet on the night we stayed that we didn’t want to go out but there was no bar or restaurant which was a pity – nowhere to go but to the room with a television that only had news in English. The area around the hotel looks a bit run down and it’s not in the heart of the tourist area although if you enjoy walking, you can get there in 25-30 minutes.
There was no sign of any staff when we arrived down next morning for breakfast on the 1st floor mezzanine. The toast machine was switched off but we put it back on and toasted our bread, the selection of food was limited. Finally a surly waitress appeared and without as much as a “good morning” demanded our room number.
We checked out and the hotel did kindly keep our luggage while we went for a last walk around before heading back to the airport and home. We will come back to Barcelona but not to the Amister Hotel.

Easy to transfer from airport using the Renfe train to Barcelona Sants. Rooms look just like the website (what a refreshing change) & the bed was so comfortable. Staff were very helpful. It is a bit of a walk to the main tourists areas Las Ramblas is 20 mins, but you need your walking legs in Barcelona anyway. We were on a room only basis but had breakfast on the last day.Not an extensive range but the basics done very well. I'd stay here again over a more expensive central hotel. Thank you Amister.

I stayed in the Amister hotel for one week in a triple room!
The room was nice and clean and the location was okay, even if the tube station was a little bit far and walking to Plaza Cataluna takes around 30 minutes.

+
People at the reception were very friendly!
Clean rooms and big bathroom (for us girls, it's very important!)
A lot of supermarkets and small shops around

-
The wi-fi connexion in my room was very bad, we had to sit on the floor next to the door in order to get a little bit of connexion
Tube station a little bit far
The breakfast was 11 euros per person/per day, which I thought was a little bit expensive. Good thing there are a lot of small coffee places around

It might not be the most central hotel in Barcelona, it was still a nice place to stay in and we had a lot of fun :)
