“Everything a weary traveler can wish for without excessive frills!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya offers clean, comfortable, uncluttered, and spacious rooms. Views of the city from the upper floors, particularly at night time or during sunsets, are supremely splendid. Hotel staff is very accommodating.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the elevator lobby for a restful night.

The hotel is literally next to Barcelona's main train station Sants which also houses the Sants Metro Station. It is only a 25 min ride from the airport to the station/hotel and it will cost you 4 euros. By the way, the hop-and-off buses gather around the Sants station. Upon arrival we were greeted in a very welcoming manner by the doorman and was able to do the check-in without any wait time. My plane arrived at 8:30 a.m. and was doing the check-in at 10:00 a.m. The front desk clerk not only offered me an available room for immediate occupancy but also offered me an upgrade to a higher floor room with better views. I would have paid for an additional night just to have immediate access to the room as I was exhausted from the trip but it was not necessary. The room faced the Tibidabo mountain as well as the Sants train station. The room was very spacious with all the amenities that you would find at finer hotels. The temperature is somewhat adjustable as you have the option of increasing it or lowering 3 degrees. The bathroom is very nice featuring marble floors, a double sink, a separate shower and a nice bath tub. Part of the amenities in the bathroom include 2 pair of slippers and bathrobes, a shaving kit, a comb, lotions, shampoo, etc. The shower has a very nice rain like shower head with perfect temperature adjustment capabilities. The separate toilet room has a regular toilet and a bidet. The entire room is very very clean. The bed was very comfortable and had about three very plushy pillows per bed, a double room is two twin size beds put together. The pillows are similar higher end hotels like the Ritz Carlton, very comfy. There is a safe in the room very easy to operate. There is also an ironing board but you need to request the iron from the front desk. For an additional 13 euros to get access to the morning breakfast buffet which has everything you can wish for at breakfast at their amazing restaurant which has spectacular and one of a kind views of Barcelona. If you don't add this option upon check-in, the breakfast will cost you 18 euros. The cleaning crews don't start until around 11 a.m. so they don't bother you if you are not an early riser and since the floors are marble, you don't hear any vacuuming going on. There are plenty of taxis always waiting at the hotel and like I said, the metro station is just across the street.

Room Tip: Request to add the breakfast upon check-in for 13 euros a day, otherwise is 19 euros.

Hotel stands next to a main rail and bus station with connections to the airport, Barcelona and the city tour buses.

Our room was on the 20th floor with fab vistas looking out towards Mount Tibidabo and over beautiful Barcelona. The room was clean, comfortable beds and the bathroom was huge.

Hotel staff are very friendly. Quick to accommodate and offer advice. Complimentary wifi - a must when travelling!

The breakfast was a reasonable selection, not sure it's worth the daily charge of 16€, but it made it easy to start seeing after a quick feed. Next time I would go to the station next door and grab a coffee and pastry or to the Bull Ring Shopping centre both 5mins walk.

I would recommend the hotel as it's a great base. It's a quiet location, so if you are looking for lively bars, you'll have to travel towards Las Ramblas or ask the check in staff for advice. Book a room on a high floor for the best views.

I and wife stayed here for 15 nights.I had part payment to hotel at first day .But,next night hotel management called me to reception by paper it was thrown under the my room and they pressed to me for advance payment all my duration (15 days) at hotel.Compulsorily, I've had to pay in advance. It was a misapplication.Hotel staff was not polite. The bed was not comfortable it was by 2 twin beds instead of double.Poor WiFi bandwidth. Old furniture, equipment, dirty windows.Old Tv.Room needed a deep clean. The water for tea and coffee was often luke warm at breakfast .I am extremely disappointed and would advice against staying at Torre Catalunya .

Just returned fri a 4 night break to Barcelona. The hotel was great - staff were lovely and so helpful. We had room on 15th floor with lovely view. We found the location a little remote and my health problems plus the heat was a problem. We spent day one exploring which required a lot of walking. We didn't realise until day 3 we could use the sister hotel opposites swimming pool! This was a Godsend in the heat. Our room was good and the bed large but a bit hard. The shower was excellent. We ate 2 nights down in the bar off reception - the staff were lovely and the wine was very palatable, nice cocktails too! Breakfast was lovely and you could have a lie in as didn't close until 1030 am.
All in all the hotel was great with no complaints apart from not knowing about the swimming pool opposite being available to us. I'm not sure Barcelona was right for me as it was too busy and too hot - you have to be pretty fit to cram everything in !

Beautiful dual aspect room with views towards the magic fountains, very clean, very comfortable bed, great location near a travel hub & wonderful staff who could not do enough for us. This was our second stay & we will be going back.

We showed up here exhausted from Travelling, the check in was a bit slow, but smooth.
The whole hotel is really beautiful, including the rooms were new and the bathrooms 5 star.
The first night I just stayed in the Lobby as my wife was not feeling good and had a couple glasses of wine and small bite to eat. The wine was good, as was the food.
The hotel is a great location as it is right beside Barcelona Sants, which is your portal to the airports and also the metro to go anywhere in the city.
The staff is all really friendly and speak excellent english.
We got the breakfast on the top floor of the hotel both mornings, an amazing view of the whole city and the food selection was great, 6 different cheeses, cured ham, eggs, sausage, salmon, etc. It was top.
The food in the lobby and breakfast was a bit pricey, but it was convenient and good quality, so I feel I got exactly what I paid for.

Room Tip: To save some money maybe head up town for food instead of staying at the hotel.
