“Well Impressed with this Gem of a Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2011

As a Travel Agent, I have stayed in many hotels over the years and am therefore hard to please. This hotel was for 1 night post cruise and was such a pleasant surprise. Having arrived in Barcelona at 8am, we thought we would have to leave our bags and sightsee for the day. The staff at check in were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and they allowed us to check in on arrival and upgraded our room. A really large room by City standards, double bathroom, and coffee making facilities, fab robes and slippers. Great location next to Tarragona metro and only 4 stops from Las Ramblas( approx 10 mins). We enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine on the terrace in the afternoon for the unbelievable price of 16 euro, sitting in a suntrap. Staff in Ecklectic Bar were so pleasant.
The piece de resistance was dinner at the Visual restaurant, breathtaking views, great service and sumptuous food and wine. NOT TO BE MISSED... Try the Fois for starters and the mouthwatering beef. Wine was again a mere 19 euro per bottle, and a nice touch was amuse bouche prior to dinner and a sample of deserts at the end. All for 80 euro. Breakfast the next day was just as good, a truly Cataln buffet with all the meats and cheeses, freshly squeezed juices and hot fare also. We could hardly move and it set us up for the day. The view by day was spectacular. Great recommendation from reception staff on the fantastic shopping centre in the old bull ring ( 5 mins walk away) which saved us going into the centre for last minute shopping. No rush to check out either. It takes a lot to impress me and many city centre hotels provide indifferent service. Well done to all the Torre Gran. We will be back and I will certainly send my cllents

Really enjoye my stay. Room was spacious and clean. Very comfortable. The staff were lovely.

The view from the bar and restaurant on the 23rd floor is wonderful.

The hotel is well positioned across the road from the rail and tube network (but main sights are not within easy walking distance of the hotel).

The only downside is that Wifi is only available in the bar and restaurant, not the bedrooms.

Very good location and staff were very helpful.

Upgraded to executive room as the standard rooms were not so nice and had an undesirable view.

The executive room was ok. However we found hair in the bathroom. Blood on a pillow and the water was dirty initially in the bathroom.

The Windows were not so thick and the room let in a lot of light as the curtains were useless.

Only stayed one night in may and the room was very cold and I found it difficult to sleep.

The decor is quite outdated in the room. The rooms need renovation.

Location: The hotel is very close to the train station (about a 100m walk), this, in my mind, is about the only reason anyone would stay at this location. The hotel location is not really convenient for anything else (it is about a 15-minute walk to Camp Nou stadium)

Clealiness: Rooms were clean and fairly recent (rooms still don t have flat TV screens, so it probaably has been a few years since the last renovation).

Service: Service is avarage. Upon check-in, I was given the keys to aa room that didn't match my reservation - they gave me a king bed when I booked a twin bed on the hotel website.. No real excuse for this kind of mistake.. Anyway, the error was quickly corrected...
There is no wi-fi in the rooms (one must connect using the ethernet cable), thiss is pretty shocking...
Rooms services stops at 1AM, and from 11PM, there is only a limited menu of mainly cold dishes (not even a club sandwich)... Our order (or toast and ham) took over 40-minutes to arrive...
The fitness room is pretty old and the machines are rather worn... I wasn;t really happy with that...

Room/Comfiness: The beds are very standard (only one pillow per bed)... Rooom temperature was fine and easy to control... Rooms have a nice panoramic vue of the city (even though the location means you're not looking over much...)

We splurged on a suite, in a package with dinner, wine, and breakfast, which seemed like a good value. The suite was large, modern, and luxurious, with great views. The restaurant featured a tasting menu with a wide variety of delicious and artfully presented food. Breakfast was an extensive buffet. Very good service and panoramic views of the city from the restaurant. Just across the street from the Sants train station.

Although our suite was large and well equipped, there was very little usable closet or other storage space. If we had been staying more than one night, it would have ben hard to unpack.

We stayed for 2 nights at this hotel. It is just across the Sants station in a less busy and quieter part of the city. The hotel staff were nice and agreed to a 2 pm check out on the date of our departure. The concierge was very accommodating and helpful. The hotel charges for internet access but gave us 15 minutes free access each day at the lobby. We could not afford the 20 Euro breakfast though.

We went out a bit past midnight for a drink but could only find 2 bars that were open.

This is not a cheap hotel but it does provide value for money. It was well worth the extra for a superior room on a higher floor - not only did I get marvellous views (which I was expecting) but I also got a kettle tray with tea, coffee etc which was a marvellous extra in a Spanish hotel. No complaints at all - tried the Visual restaurant on the 23rd floor - the short end of the hotel has wonderful views directly towards the Sagrada Familia and the restaurant was well placed to take advantage of this. The food was also very good - savoury dishes a bot more than dessert. Would definitely stay here again if I was in Barcelona - quiet, close to the station for fast and cheap travel to airport and close to metro. Also on open-top tour bus routes.

Room Tip: Go for the superior rooms.
