“Good value but single rooms unpleasant”

Hotel Comercio Barcelona

i would agree with previous reviewers that the hotel is in a good location. We had no problems with antisocial behaviour. Breakfast was good. Several of us had single rooms and they were very small and stuffy looking onto an internal enclosed stairwell. Three of our party shared a triple room which was more pleasant although noisy at night. The hotel was clean and staff were pleasant. Good value for central Barcelona but the single rooms were not pleasant.

I stayed in this hotel from February 13th to 17th,2006.The staff are a little abrupt and not very friendly, but don't let this put you off...they warm up!!!Their English is very good. The hotel is in a perfect location on the Ramblas..It has a pharmacy, bakery grill room, off licence and lots of other shops next door to each other. The rooms are small but adequate, they do not have a hairdryer in the room but you can ask for one downstairs. The breakfast is from 8-10 and is wonderful, great selection...cereal, rolls, cornflakes , croissants, yogurts...The supermarket and a beautiful fruit market are just up the street on the left hand side..Go out the door to your right and head for the Quinze Nits Restaurant...(Plaza Reial)...very good value for money. We got 3 meals, 2 deserts, bottle of water, wine and coffee for 40 euros. Try the Fonda Restaurant on the other side of the street, it's just as cheap.Though remember, they do not open til 8.30pm and you have to queue...
Overall we liked this hotel, it was clean and ideal for any traveller on a budget. It can be a little noisey, but just ask for a room on the top floor. It is the Ramblas after all...a little noise is to be expected But the Ritz it's not!!!!We saw no drug dealers or prostitutes????...I felt very safe here.Enjoy!

“Excellent value”

Excellent location, couldn't be bettered. Room was fine, very clean and well furnished, cleaned every day of our stay. Staff were helpful and most spoke English. Noisy, but that is to be expected in any hotel especially in a 24hr city like Barcelona. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice and always fresh. I would recommend this hotel if you're not looking for 5 star, but want somewhere central, clean and good value. We certainly didn't see any drug dealers or prostitutes during our stay!!

“Don't do it!!”

for such a great city barcelona does seem to have a problem providing good quality budget accom. although this place i wouldn't really call especially cheap either. it was 45euros/night and provided less facilities than many a hostel. the hotel, then, is very basic. no bar or restaurant or anything like that. the staff speak english, which is good, but the general attitude is poor and most exchanges i had resulted in a series of grunts. the (single) room i had was extremely small, albeit en suite. there was a lack of toilet roll in the bathroom, (i really object to having to go to reception to ask for some bog roll), and the holder came apart in my hands. the air-con did not work -not a prob in march but a nightmare in summer. there was a tv with only CNN for english-speakers to watch. on the plus side it was clean and secure. the main problem though is noise. barcelona is a true 24hr city and there is *always* noise on the streets. this is part of the attraction of the city. however the windows are poor quality and offer no insulation. worse than that there is no protection from the noise of other guests. doors slamming constantly, people walking thru corridors, screaming english teenagers on a school trip, u hear it all. purely because the doors and the structure of the room in general offer no protection.the only plus for the hotel is it's location. it's just off las ramblas, albeit at the less prosperous end. there are dealers and ------ hanging around this end, but the odd character whispering 'hash?' in your ear, doesn't really worry me.all in all, a poor hotel.

“Avoid like the plague”

Situated down a dirty side street just off La Rambla, you'll have to negotiate your way through the local drug dealers before getting to the hotel. The smell of the day's rubbish greets you as you arrive at the lobby. The various reception staff range from the uninterested to the downright rude. Most will just grunt at you before throwing your key at you and pointing towards the lift. The rooms are cramped and airless, even in the low season, and the tiled floors amplify noise to irritating levels both night and day. The accomodation might be cheap but there is better to be had for the money and the location cannot make up for the hotel's failings.
