The location, the cleanliness and politeness of staff were very good, earning the majority of the score. You have the Gaudi sites a short walk north and the gothic / born quarters a short 15-20 minute walk below. I only got on public transport once in 4 days to go to parc Guell, but I do like to walk!
There was nothing wrong with the hotel at all but a bit typically bland and soulless - will definitely return to Barcelona but for the price will rent an apartment. Barcelona hotels are expensive and the Apsis Aranea did seem better value and quieter than the ones in the Gothic Quarter (which I can imagine are invaded with street noise day and night).
The room was small and so was the "double" bed - a UK single and a half really. These corner rooms and the beds are much smaller but apparently quieter. However, the room did have an ajoining door to the next room and you could hear conversations and the shower.
The only other amenities were a handy safe in the room and a rooftop terrace (which they could do more with really).
I didn't bother with the breakfast at the hotel. It was far too expensive and there are a lot of good bakery's and cafes nearby.
If you are after a clean, safe hotel to go back to after sightseeing days and late evenings then this is it. If you want a hotel to chill out and spend time in and be surrounded in the style and funkiness that Barcelona has in abundance, spend a bit more and stay elsewhere.
