This hotel is ideally located near Placa de Catalunya, with the noisy Ramblas on one side and the major shopping area on the other side.

The rooms are nicely decorated (modern) with dark (mock)wood furniture and wooden floors. The bathroom was excellent, wouldn´t mind having one like it at home. We stayed on the top floor which had a lovely big terrace.

Facilities were good, minibar with free water and juices everyday, bathroom anemities good, internet in the room (though not cheap, almost 9 euro´s an hour, use the free internet in the business center), pay per view movies (almost 12 euro a movie, but as almost all channels are Spanish except CNN you may want to see one or two).

Some flaws: cleaning was selective, bathroom door got jammed so technician had to come and open it, no respect for the do not disturb sign, rooms are smallish and beds even smaller, ashtrays in room are fixed but need to be emptied!

But over all, we had a lovely stay. Tip: don´t eat near the Ramblas, go to one of the restaurants in the major shopping area (Diagonal). We liked Captain Cook.

We chose this hotel based on the reviews in Tripadvisor. We booked on the internet and had no problems. The staff at reception were friendly and spent time showing us maps and helping us to feel welcome.

My usual worries about cleanliness were short lived - this is the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in and I am not easy to please.

We had booked a double room at the back - it was on the first floor which turned out to be a non smoking floor. We had no problem with noise and slept like logs.

This is the sort of hotel where you know you've made the right choice as soon as you walk through the front door.

We recently had a long weekend break in Barcelona, and wanted a modern hotel for our stay. After some online research, we went for the Apsis Atrium.

Location wise, it was fantastic, just a short distance from the Passeig de Gracia metro station, but far enough away from the Placa Catalunya and La Rambla hubble and bubble.

The room was modern and a reasonable size, although some of the fixtures and fittings were starting to show signs of wear and tear. The room was also not that clean, with ring marks on the surfaces and visible dust in places. There were also no tea making facilities in the room, although water and juice were free from the minibar.

Breakfast was also a little pricey at €15 per head. Much better value could be had at one of the cafes up Passeig de Gracia.

Overall, a little disappointing.

I stayed in this hotel with my boyfriend for 4 nights in August. It was in an excellent location, right near the Placa Catalunya, the shops, restaurants and subway stops. The room was lovely- a fine size considering we weren't in it for long periods of time. The fact that you got free water and juice in the mini bar was a big plus when staying in the sweltering heat of August! The only major flaw was the noise. We stayed in a room in the middle of the hotel, overlooking the playground. This was not a problem, as there were no kids at school when we were there. What was a major problem was the thinness of the walls. Whenever the people in the next room used the toilet, had a shower etc. it felt like they were in the same room as us. One night, people came in very late and made a horrendous amount of noise, banging doors etc., which kept us up for a while. I know this is a problem in hotels, but this seemed exceptionally worse than any other hotel I have stayed in before. But despite this problem, I had a very enjoyable stay. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I emailed them before I arrived, requesting a double rather than a twin room and they sorted this out for us. The hotel was clean, and was a nice size, not too big and not too small. Didn't use the swimming pool or other facilities because too busy sightseeing! I would definitely recommend it, but maybe bring some ear plugs if you are a light sleeper!
