On arriving at Barcelona airport, we found are way to the black bull statue and were meeting by the transfer agent, we were the first to arrive, and we then waited for over an hour until others eventually arrived. Not a great start, it sounded like some, either got lost in the airport or could not read there instructions on how to find the meeting point. Eventual we got underway, even though we were the first to arrive; we ended up as the last to be dropped at our hotel, that’s the risk you take with a cheap holiday deal, if you get chance book a private transfer.
The hotel looked as good as the photos and on line reviews.
Checked in ok, and then went to check out the room. Not what we booked, 2 single beds.Stright back to reception, and complain, the girl on reception was rather rude and certainly not customer focused, we were in no mood to take and messing about and demanded a room with double bed, eventually she sorted it out, but you could see by the look on her face she was not very happy to help us, just kept muttering the room is a double and that’s what’s booked, at which I did have to remind her do you sleep in single beds at home with your husband, or a double, it went quite and she handed over the new room key.
Room was fine and all as we had hoped it was. Modern trendy, and had everything you could wish for on a long weekend break, well apart from a kettle, but that never bothers us we had brought are own travel kettle, this must be the most travelled kettle ever.
Went for a look around the dining room, bar etc and all looks good, checked out the roof top terrace, the pool was closed for renovation work, not that we want to use at nearly minus temperatures. But it did look good and would be a great asset to the hotel in the summer months.
Just down the road is the diagonal mar shopping centre, and then just a bit further down is the beach, all very clean and neat. Everything you wish for in the shopping centre, loads of places to eat out as well. We tried a local restaurant, fish and chips, and paella, with beer and wine, and all for about 25Euros. Seems to be a general price for this time of year.
You can also take the tram from the same area and go about 1 ½ mile down the road to Glories shopping centre, wow this is massive, even has a large carfore supermarket, loads of shops and places to eat, all the brand names as well, primart, hahaha, Zara, C&A you name it. We did eat out here one evening and it was great.
Getting around Barcelona city, we purchased a 3 day underground, tram, bus card, 20 euro each, good value for money. We used the, local underground stop and headed into the city centre. The underground stop and tram stop are only a 10min walk from hotel.
1st Must see sight. Sagra Familla Basilca, 18Eouro, each and included a lift to the top of the tower, wow what a view and what a day, We spent almost a complete day in here so must to see, its just unbelievable and they have been building it for over 100 years. And there still hard at it.
Loads of other things to see and do while in Barcelona. Some sights are bit pricy for what they are, so pick carefully what you want to go and see.
There are not many signs or helpful info on getting around in the city, unlike other cites we have been to. The hotel did give us a map and booklet of saver coupons which came in handy.
All to quickly are short weekend was over, and we checked out, Watch out for the city tax you get stung with on check out, that wasn’t mentioned anywhere on check in or via the travel company we booked with.
The transfer back to the airport was on time, just a taxi for us, only took 30min and was brill wish we had just booked this for are arrival, maybe the first transfer guide felt sorry for us having to wait so long on arrival and this was are reward.
Either way a great weekend in Barcelona, and I great hotel, just a shame about the receptionist and her attitude. This is on are list to go back in the summer and even spend a bit of time by the beach and pool. Barcelona has something for everyone, just go at your own pace and price.
.All rooms are good from we can tell, we had a room overlooking the local pre school.
