We discovered this small italian restaurant in Barcelona while walking to our appartment. On the Thursday night we were there, business was slow, so we had all the attention of the waiter and the cook. The cuisine of Mandimandi appears to be typical Friuli italian cuisine (from the Northern part of Italy). We had a frico (potatoes and cheese) and an insalata which were both plentiful, comforting and quite good, as an entrée. I had the tuna for the main course and my wife ordered the gnocchi, a specialty of that part of Italy. We also ordered desserts and espresso and were treated to a complimentary glass of Grappa. Only the wine (a Valpolicella) seemed a little dull to me.
Although the owner and cook does not speak French or English fluently, the waiter did and we had an extraordinary conversation after supper, regarding love, politics in Italy and other places, all in a mixture of French, English, Catalan and Spanish, with a hint of Italian, which made it all the better.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience for a reasonable price.
