“Great location, but not the Ritz”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Excellent location and for £200 for 4 nights we did not expect the Ritz. It is basic, it is clean, breakfast is limited, the bath is tiny but the shower works and after a long day sight seeing the bed was comfortable.
Downside: - it can be a little noisey. If you get a room on the square it will be subject to noise. If like us you get an internal room which has a window opening onto a wall then it is quieter but i guess in summer it would be mad hot. I was disappointed at first not to have a view but in hindsight was happy to stay in the room allocated as it was quiet.
The hotel is full of young students and school children, most of whom came from the country of no manners !! ( its the same one where they leave their towels on sun beds ) But agin for the 15 mins you are in contact with them in the breakfast room its fine.
If you go for this hotel, go on the price and the excellent location and spend your money saved on a nice expensive meal out .

Room Tip: Rooms on the sqaure could be noisey, Internal rooms hotter during the peak summer months.

We just come back from a 9 day stay in Barcelona and we had a 4 bedded room in Roma Reial Hotel.
I seen all possible reviews before we go and I was scared a little bit but when we get there , surprise.
The hotel could not be located better, it is close to every attractions in town, museums, shops, bars, beach , metro, bus , you name it.
The rooms are basic with old furniture but the sheets and towels were changed every day, and they are cleaning the room every day.
we had a 4 bedded room as we were 2 adults and 2 children and we asked for a room with balcony with a view on the square and i do not feel sorry for that, as in the evening, we didn't spent the money to the terraces ( as they are the most expensive ones in town) but we enjoyed the view and people form our balcony. As the weather was not so hot we could close the windows during the night and we slept very well.

This hotel was absolutely terrible. The website says there is AC in many of the rooms - which we requested in email and they responded by saying they would try to get us one of those rooms. Upon arriving they told us less than five per cent of the rooms have AC and they were rooms with one single bed (not what we booked). They were quite rude about it when we enquired and we believe we were misled because they said most of the rooms had AC.

The room we stayed had a TINY window thus no ventilation in 40 degree weather. The room felt like a sauna and was impossible to sleep in. It had to have been at least 45 plus in the room. In order to sleep we wet our hand towels and slept with them over our bodies ... only to find a passive aggressive letter from the hotel staff in the morning asking us not to wet our towels. Myself and the person staying in the room with me, on separate nights, vomited from heat stroke.

The breakfast was terrible with only frosty flakes or croissants with no healthy option. The building was very old and quite dilapidated. I would say the only good things about this hotel is it's convenient location and free wifi. Although don't let the good location fool you - there are plenty of reasonable hotels close by that are in a similar price range. I would NOT suggest anyone to stay here. We would be able to tolerate the rooms and heat if the staff were nice, however, they were rude and non apologetic for their false advertising.

Room Tip: If you want AC in the heat of summer do not book this place.

The location of this hotel is fantastic! Just off the Ramblas, in a beautiful square (Placa Reial), with a lovely fountain in the middle and surrounded by palm trees and numerous cafes and restaurants! We were within walking distance of most things, or if not, walking distance to the metro. For the price, the location was excellent!
However, I would never stay here again in the summer! There is no air-con, just a couple of fans provided in the room, and when you are 4 floors up it was truly unbearable! The fans did no more than ciculate hot air around the room. We had an awful nights sleep because it was so unbearably hot, that my partner had to get up in the middle of the night and go downstairs to buy water else we would've woken so dehydrated we would surely have been ill the following day! We were only on a stop-over in Barcelona, and so were only here the one night, but if we were staying longer we would have had to check out and stay somewhere with air-con. I'm sure in the cooler months of the year it is fine, but I would advise you to not stay here in the heat of summer, it was stifling!!! The breakfast was also very limited with just a few pastries, cereal, tea-coffee and juice! Pancakes, fresh fruit or an egg would have been nice!

Room Tip: Get a room on a low floor so that it may be cooler!!!

I booked this hotel especially because it was marketed as having air conditioning, but only 2 rooms (so I was told) in the whole hotel actually have it.False advertising.Be aware of this and that Barcelona is very hot at this time of year.I resorted to putting a wet towel over me at night only to be told off by the maid because the bed was wet.

The food was bad, just prefer to book with only (little) breakfast. It is also not particularly clean.
You can sleep when you traveling all day and you fall tired in Bett. :)
The staff is not very friendly and doesn't understand.
No more then 2 nights.

To start off, the rooms have no AC which make it not so comfortable in the hot summer month in August. However, the hotel provides a very powerful fan which somewhat alleviates the discomfort.
The location can't be better. It is located in Plaza Reial, just off La Rambla. I absolutely love this plaza. It is filled with restaurants and full of people almost 24 hours a day. Our room is facing inside so it is very quiet. I imagine a room with a balcony facing the plaza would be pretty noisy.
