Stayed there two nights and were very pleased....considering we paid approximately 65Euros per night (www.hotels.ca). At this price, there is no better option. The location is amazing....can't get much better than being directly on La Rambla. Renovated rooms are fine. Some are bigger and some are smaller. Try to get a renovated room (which overlooks the street) with a shower curtain. Most rooms have a half glass panel and it just doesn't work - we ended up using most of our towels wiping up the puddles on the floor. We stayed in room 445 and were very happy with it...it was a bit larger and had a shower curtain. Don't be shy to ask to borrow a hairdryer...they ask for 10E deposit but return it at the end of the stay. Also, don't be shy to ask for a renovated room if you don't get one the first time.......I think they try to get rid of the unrenovated rooms first but don't even blink to switch. Yes, some reviews are correct - there is ONE unpleasant desk person......if you get him, just ignore him and ask to speak with someone else....the others who work the desk go out of their way to help....with taxis, restaurant recommendations, etc......
All in all, we were very happy with our stay - especially at the price we got it.....a week later we checked and the price was 280 Euros for the same room!!!! - which at that price, you are better off going elsewhere.....
Oh yeah, it is true that the rooms facing the street are noisy....at 6:30AM, they were still out there laughing and enjoying themselves......however, we are city people and so the noise didn't particularly bother us at all....however, if you are a light sleeper or not used to any noise then I definately would NOT recommend a street facing room or any hotel for that matter which directly on la rambla.
Also, directly across the street, through an alley is a piazza - a city square....we didn't disover it until it was too late but definately explore it. In the evening the entire square is turned in to great outdoor restaurants, cafes and bars....during the day it is nothing, but definately check it out at night. It is a bit more interesting than eating on la ramba.
At the right price, this hotel is a definate must.
