We visited here quite by chance when we saw endless queues for the Picasso museum. Frederic Mares was an important Catalan sculptor and collector and there are thousands upon thousands of items on display here. There are several rooms such as photography, clocks and watches, ironwork and keys, postcards, walking sticks, snuff boxes, toys and a whole floor dedicated to his sculpture. For me the most interesting room was the Ladies room which gives a wonderful portrayal of the life of a nineteenth century middle class Spanish lady. Hundreds of fans, bags, gloves, hatpins, clothing, jewellery and pictures are
beautifully arranged.
It was nearly empty (September) but with lots of museum
staff who knew their subjects well. Definitely worthy of a visit.
