“Pretty much your typical religious art museum”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013 via mobile

This place is full of religious art and artifacts, fixtures, tools, etc. if you aren't really into that kind of thing, you can easily skip... Especially since religious art is sort of the norm in Europe. The staff here were VERY helpful and kind.

“You'll never see anything like this anywhere else”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Unless you have a very serious aversion to religious art, this is a must. it's less than half the price of most Barca museum's and has what most be the most complete collection of Spanish church sculpture form the XII-XIV centuries. And that's just the arty part. As well this fellow collected everything else, from fancy fans to cigar bands to camera, cards, clocks, walking sticks etc. etc. Living to 90, he had a long time to do it all; there are over 50,000 items.

But seriously, the church art is incredible. One can't imagine where he got it all. First rate and unusual. Nice shady café as well.

“Brilliant museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

Only found out about this at the last minute - how lucky we were!

An unbelievable amount of stuff to see! It started off with the lovely courtyard entrance. Then there was all the stonework and religious artefacts; then all the other things he collected - an amazing number of all sorts of things!

We spent ages looking round - you could certainly go again and see lots you missed the first time. Very good value at 4.20 euros each.

Wowee! Awesome collection. Displayed beautifully and lit superbly. It's a visual delight! If you love inpretation, prob not for you. But if you love stuff and lots of it. Go! The way the stuff is displayed is a work of art. My fave museum in Barcelona by far.

“Awesome, peculiar and inspirational”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013 via mobile

This museum/collection is not highly featured in the tour books - there are more obvious places to visit in Barcelona. But, for me, it is one of the highlights of a visit to the city. This is the personal collection of a Barcelona artist/sculptor for the early 20th century. One large room - his library/study - contains some of his works and these are worth visiting in themselves. In the last few years the way the collection is displayed has been much improved, although on the top two floors there is a crazy and wonderful collection of just-about anything you can imagine - toy theatres, watches, ironwork, shell 'flowers' - see what other reviewers have mentioned. For me the ground and first floors are the highlight - a vast collection of religious statues, mainly Madonnas and Christ on the cross - the sort of items that would have been around the altar in medieval churches. These are amazing. Some might find such a collection oppressive or weird. I found it incredibly moving and poignant. Barcelona offers many amazing sights and experiences but, for me, this is in the top ten.
