5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We stayed here in March 2013 and we had an amazing time, and Hostal Orleans was brilliant, can't fault it! When we arrived, me and my partner raced to open the shutters to the balcony, and we were not disappointed! Hospitality was great, cleaniness perfect, and really nice sweets at the reception area :-) you really feel like you're living the life of Barcelona. This is excellent if you're travelling on a budget... The restaurant underneath is always packed with locals, serving great value, lovely food. If you struggle with steps, don't stay here!

If you go to Barcelona... Stay here! :-) we'll definately be staying here again!

I stayed in Hostal Orleans for 3 nights, in a single room. That is a small room with a single bed, small desk, sink and a shower but shared toilet. The last was not a problem, since it was always available and clean. My room was not overlooking the road but was an enclosed one, which means that on the one hand no noise, on the other hand rather dark and not welcoming to spend time in (which wasn't my plan anyway..). Wi-fi is also available in the room. A minus is that most of the stuff doesn't speak english, so I you don't speak spanish you're kind of on your own.. The place was quiet, I would see occasionally some of the other guests in the hall or the stairway but not really a place where there is interaction between the quests. Location is the best thing Orleans offers, El Born is a really nice area, lots of bars restaurants etc close by, the boardwalk, Barri Gotic and Barchelonetta are also within a few minutes walking distance. The train station is just across the street, making the trip from and to the airport very easy. Combined with the really low price I paid (which was about 40 euro per day, in mid May), made the place a good choice and me mostly satisfied..

Good value , simple clean accommodation . The one thing I haven't spotted in other reviews...how easy it is to get to from the AIRPORT . All you have to do is alight from the RENFE ( Spains National Rail ) service at Gracia and get on ( probably ) the next RENFE train from the same platform . This takes you ( next stop , after 8 minutes ) to Franco station . The front of the train will be approximately 70 metres from Hostel Orleans , directly across the road . You don't need to use the Metro or Barceloneta station on this journey . At the Airport station , you can buy a card ( a T10 ) which allows you 10 journeys using the Metro within central Barcelona AND RENFE services to and from the airport for less than 10 euros ! The same card can even be used by more than 1 person .

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room , if such things exist in Barcelona !

Stayed here for 5 nights at the end of May. Excellent place to stay for sight seeing - the Estation Franca was just across the road and a metro station just down the road. Our room was a reasonable size with en-suite, though our daughter and her partner's room was slightly smaller. It was clean and bright with a lovely little balcony. I should say that if you prefer baths you may be disappointed - we had one in the bath room as well as a shower but the bath was only suitable for a child - I am short (5ft) and found it too cramped. The staff cleaned the room and made the beds each day. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room but a serviceable vending machine in the communal lounge. Room also had TV (great if you speak Spanish) and a hairdryer. Bed were very comfortable. As mentioned in precious reviews it can be noisy at the front of the hotel with an extremely busy wide road at the front as well as several restaurants/bars on the street. It wasn't a problem for us as it just added to the atmosphere but I suspect some people may have been disturbed by the noise and bustle. After a busy day sight seeing we were usually too tired to be disturbed by anything. The hotel is on the third floor with no lift so a bit of a trek especially with luggage on the first day.
The immediate area is full of some wonderful sights with some great tapas bars and restaurants. Make sure you take time to visit the Parc de la Ciutadella just a few yards down the road - it is quite lovely - great if you have children as there is a Zoo within the park.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back if you find night time noise a problem.

We found this hotel to be conveniently located near the "must see" areas of Barcelona. The room was clean, if on the smallish side, which is to be expected for this price range in Europe.
The staff was very friendly and helped us inquire about a show at a local theater since we didn't speak the language.
We felt comfortable walking around the neighborhood after dark despite the fact that the hotel is located just outside the touristy area. The hotel is right across the street from the train station and a 10 minutes taxi drive from the cruise terminal. A couple of negative points:1) the walls are pretty thin and the night we were there, the guest next door had a bad cold and coughed all night. 2) the hotel is located on the third floor up a narrow staircase and if you have heavy/ big suitcases, it is quite a hike - it is all on foot - no elevator on the property.
But overall, we would stay there again.

we were visiting Barcelona to watch the champions league game v milan and staying just 2 nights. the location and price suited us well and we were delighted with our room which was functional but spotless and comfortable. the staff were also friendly and helpful and i will defiantly be using. Hostal Orleans again. ideal for acity break where all you want is somewhere clean and comfortable after your day out exploring the city. the only negative i can see is the stairs, which was not a problem for us but would be for elderly or people with mobility problems

Room Tip: we were in room 218 which had window facing into the inner courtyard of the building, so there weas...

From the outside, you do not receive a particularly favourable impression of the hotel, and to enter it you have to climb several flights of stairs. Once inside though, it was a pleasant surprise. A tasteful conversion of a 17th century building, sensitively done.
The rooms were small but adequate with small balcony overlooking the street. The staff were extremely helpful with tips of how to get around Barcelona. The hotel is in a great location only a few minutes walk from Barcelonata metro station. Great value for money.
