On Oct. 25, 2012, my wife and I stayed at Guitart Grand Passage Hotel in Barcelona two days prior to a trans-atlantic cruise. The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood (A stone throw from Diagonal Avenida which is more considered commercial as compared to the Ramblas noisy surroundings) and a short walking distance to restaurants and a nearby super market. The front desk reception welcomed us in a business-like manner. The building is exceptionally grand from the outside but the main hotel lobby is obstructed by two huge floor-to-ceiling pillars. All rooms face the front and side streets and each room has an enclosed floor-to-ceiling and see-through balcony. There is no room the facing back side of the building. Our room has a foyer with a couch, desk, a chair and adequate lighting fixtures. The bedroom has two closets and two sliding entrance doors. One door is between the foyer and bedroom and the other door is between the bedroom and the room hallway. The bathroom is big enough to fit a full size european bathtub and fitted with handicap bars. However, it neither have a rubber mat nor glued rubberized strips. I was always mindful of slipping everytime I took my showers. The hotel provides complimentary toiletries including hair combs, tooth brushes, soaps, toothpaste and plenty of towels. We did not eat at the in house restaurants. The rate we paid did not include breakfast. We ate our meals and breakfasts at nearby establishments that are within two blocks of walk or across from the hotel. The hotel is about a liesure forty five (45) minutes walk to Plaza Universitat (Universitat is a few blocks from Ramblas). The on-demand hot and warm water was very adequate but the bathroom itself can use refurbishing such as caulking around the tub. When you happen to be in the vicinity of Plaza Universitat look for Viena Cafe (Wien Cafe). They serve ham sandwiches (flount) that is priced reasonably and out of this world.
