“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

We had a very enjoyable 5 nights here over the first weekend of March. The hotel directions from airport were not that accurate but just head for the Liceu metro station, then on to the La Rambla and walk east towards the Place de Sant Joseph. 5 minutes walk. It is ideally situated not far from the main daily market and is within easy walking of most of the old area especially the La Ribera area and the port. You are in the middle of the Gotic area.
Just around the corner is the wonderful Irati tapas bar, good patisseries and coffee bars. There is a lovely atmosphere in the lively square outside with all sorts of afternoon and evening entertainment. Perfect to watch the world go by. Our hotel room had two smallish single beds and the bathroom was a bit small but very clean with fresh towels and sheets everyday. No facilities to brew a cuppa in the room though. Reception is on first floor so quite a few stairs to climb and you have to walk up a few more steps to get to the small lift. Lift is very quiet and does not disturb you at all. Would highly recommend this hotel as the ideal base to explore all of the great sites in the city. Our 5 days went too fast. Staff quite helpful although we had no problems. There is a deposit required for a key to the small room safe of 20 euros.

Room Tip: Go for a room with balcony view

El Jardi is a nice, basic hotel. You don't have a ton of room but it works. We got the largest size exterior room with balconies--two smallish twin beds, enough place to put the suitcases, SMALL shower stall and basic bathroom, little couch to sit on, cupboard big enough for coats and clothes of two persons, and a little TV card with shelves was handy, also. The exterior rooms have a great view of the square but are noisy until the party dies down (after 11, esp on weekends). We were tired enough from our activities to sleep OK anyhow, but light sleepers may be really disturbed by the noises of singing, guitars, and folks eating and drinking in the square until the small hours.

Weekends there are art markets in the square, which was nice. Lots of nice restaurants a few steps away, and it was an easy walk to get to Las Ramblas, the Barcelona Cathedral and many museums, the Placa de Catalunya, and other sites. The ocean and beach are not more than 15 to 20 minutes walk, either. The metro is less than five minutes walk and it was less than half an hour to reach Sargrada Familia.

Rooms were clean, staff was friendly and helpful. Wi Fi was adequate and we had it in the rooms as well as the lobby. Breakfast was worth it if you got it free for booking on line, as we did, but I would not be paying for it had it not come free with my room.

The hallways were noisy if other guests spoke or were dragging luggage, and our next door neighbor's bathroom was next to ours and it sounded like one of us was in our bathroom whenever that person was running the water. We did not hear much in the way of neighbor hotel guests voices unless they were in a hallway.

I would stay here again.

El Jardi is an excellent value for the money. It is in a great location just off of Las Ramblas, close to many of the sights, and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had an interior room, which was decent sized, quiet, very comfortable, very clean and functional. Good continental breakfast. They will provide a hair dryer if you ask. Free wifi. The only downside was that the room was a bit overheated, but that was something that we found throughout Spain in December. Highly recommend.

We have booked this hotel after reading reviews on the TripAdvisor. We needed a base from where we could easily get anywhere in Barcelona. This hotel is fantastic! It is situated in Barri Gotic, few yards away from la Rambla. Metro is nearby, too. We have booked a large double room with a balcony, it was spacious enough, so was the bathroom. Place is really clean, and the towels are changed daily. Beds are really comfy. It is rather quiet (remember it is a city centre). Good aircon. It really deserves good 3*. We have taken the breakfasts, too. Good, continental with plenty of food. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would be happy to recommend this hotel to anyone and would definitely stay there again. One thing, reception is on first floor, so it is not suitable for people with walking difficulties or on wheelchairs. One tip, if you pay cash in advance, ask for a discount! :)

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room with a balcony.

First I would like to sincerely apologize to phillygirlagain, I am one of the chaperones of the loud group. I did care and asked them every evening to be respectful and quiet, they were all adults and responsible for their behavior. We were a group of 16 and in a crowd that size you will have the ones that forget that they are in a public space. I chaperone these student trips every year and I know people cringe when they see that they are in a hotel with a group. I am so sorry someone from my group knocked on your door, truly unacceptable behavior. I will use your review as an example as to how behavior goes beyond the spectrum of them at that moment and affects others and how others view us.
REVIEW of El Jardi.
I chose this hotel because of it's location. Barcelona is one of my favorite cities and I knew that from this little plaza my students would be able to walk everywhere or have easy access to public transportation. This hotel is in a perfect spot. It sits on a plaza with a beautiful old church. I enjoyed listening to the church bells and the night life.
The staff was extremely helpful from the moment we made our reservations all the way to the morning we had to leave. We were to meet our bus at 4 a.m., breakfast was usually at 8:30 a.m. but the hotel staff made sure to leave us coffee cups and fresh coffee at 3:30 to help us wake up for our trip back to the states.
The rooms are small but very clean and very comfortable. I had a room with a balcony overlooking the church and plaza. Truly beautiful.
I would highly recommend this hotel for price, comfort and location, just a few steps from la boqueria (the market), la rambla, Plaza Catalunya and the water. I felt very safe in this hotel as it is on the 'right' side of la rambla. Lots of little shops and restaurants right in the plaza. We particularly enjoyed the restaurant Taller de Tapas.

Room Tip: I liked the balcony rooms.

My mom, sister and I all stayed at this hotel in Sep 2013. It was small and not fancy, but very clean and the location was amazing!! My mom is 65 and my sister and I are late 20's and we all had a very enjoyable stay. The room was clean and sanitary but small and economical. Perfect for our needs as it was in the middle of the gothic quarter and walk-able to everything we wanted; resturants, bus line, beach. Would definitely recommend and stay here again! Secure entry and 24 hour concerige.

I just stayed here, and there is good and bad to say about this place, but I suspect if you are older than 25, this place might not work for you...

Pros:
- The location. This place is right in the heart of things. You can easily walk to the major sites, and even taking the train from the airport and then walking here is not that bad, saving you money. It also overlooks a lovely courtyard/marketplace, but that has its disadvantages, too (read on).

- Nice room. The room is actually pretty nice and cozy for such a low price, which is great. If you pay in cash, you get a 10% discount on the cost of the room, too.

Cons:
- Noise, noise, noise! We got next to no sleep here. The market/courtyard outside is VERY loud. To the hotel's defense, a lot of this noise is taken care of by the thick windows, but if you like to sleep with the windows open, that won't work here. To make matters worse, a college group was staying there, and their chaperone apparently didn't care to keep them quiet, so we got to listen to them stamp around and shout up and down the halls all night. Some were even too drunk to find the right room, so they banged on our door at 3am. While the hotel isn't necessarily responsible for the behavior of the people it lets stay there, I suspect groups like this stay there often, so you might have the same situation we did.

- The shower. Whoever designed the shower of our room is a fool. He/she put the shower head holder too close to the ceiling, so you can't actually put the shower head in it. This means you have to essentially take a one-handed shower the whole time because if you don't hold the shower head, it shoots all over the shower by the force of the water coming out of it. It's such a simple thing to fix. Why not fix it?

FYI:
- The breakfast is nothing to write home about. If it's included in the cost of your room, then great. Eat it. But, do not pay for it. You could get much better for the same or less outside.

- The staff ranges from excellent and polite to a bit squirrely. The early evening guy was excellent, the late night guy spoke no English or Spanish, and the morning guy was hit or miss - sometimes helpful, sometimes dismissive.

We really wanted to like this place, but we ended up being exhausted for a lot of our time in Barcelona and the next city, so if you need your sleep, really seriously consider whether you want to book this place. It might just be worth paying a little bit more to stay somewhere quieter!

Room Tip: I think it's a crap shoot here.

Dear Phillygirlagain,

Thank you for having stayed with us at “el Jardí”, a family oriented hotel, catering also professionals and couples in general with a good track record to the date. El Jardí success is based on the ideal location and the affordable rates we offer.

By local county ordinances all business in the square must be closed by 11:00 at night. Due to the lively squares that surround the hotel we recommend to close balconies and windows while sleeping.

We occasionally do host small groups and always communicate with the leader of the group the norms of the hotel prior to contract.

Customer service training will be provided to rectify the lack of personal attention you experienced.

We strive to constantly improve our facilities to better satisfy our guests.

We would very much like to welcome you back to “el Jardí” so you can experience first hand how serious we take the suggestions of our guests.
