“Balcony right on La Rambla”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2012

I was there with a friend in early November, 2011. Our room had a balcony right on La Rambla. We could sit on it and watch the lively activity below us. The room is very pink, which was OK with us. The staff was friendly and helpful. We booked partly because of the 24 hour buffet. When we saw the food, however, we were disappointed. We passed on the food, but availed ourselves of the beer on tap. Another reason to book is the excellent room rates. The location is unbeatable. A block from Placa Catalunya, around the corner from the airport bus, and within walking distance of most of what we wanted to see. For everything else, the metro is steps away. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking La Rambla. When the doors are closed, you can't hear any noise.

This is not a five star hotel by any means, but it doesn't cost that either. Clean small rooms with all the amenities you'd expect at a two star hotel. The location is unbeatable. It is right on the main boulevard La Rambla, only few minutes walk to metro, and only a few minutes walk to an express bus to/from airport. Staff is very friendly. Breakfast is nothing to write home about, but will get you going in the morning.

If you're looking to explore Las Ramblas for a long time this is the best place to stay. We found it to be reasonably priced as well considering that it is on Las Ramblas (lots of access to restaurants, bars and shopping). It is a 20 minute walk (or a faster cab ride) to the port in case you are catching a cruise ship (like we were). It is a few minutes on a bus from the airport. It has a 24 hr buffet with beer, wine and soda free to guests for snacking. The rooms are kind of silly and have plastic furniture so if that puts you off then this might not be the right place for you to stay. But my husband and I adored our balcony view. I sat out there in the morning to watch the marathon runners, I sat out there in the afternoon to watch street performers and pickpockets at work while crowds meandered up and down the streets, and I sat out there in the late night with a snack and drink wrapped up in my blanket enjoying late night performances and watching police round up illicit people on the streets below. IT was such fabulous entertainment in Barcelona and our favorite part of being there! Its too loud (due to location) for really solid sleep or for people who want to escape crowds.

Quirky hotel, with friendly staff. The buffet was very welcome, particularly the wine and beer!
The rooms are not the plushest but it does not detract from the overall value. We had a balcony room and sat out and enjoyed the celebrations on las Ramblas as Barca fans went mad after their el classico victory over Madrid.

This Hotel is on the Ramblas where all the action is...amazing hotel, we had a balcony which overlooked the Ramblas. loved it!
The hotel was very clean, comfortable and their endless buffet is available at all times. I didnt much at the Hotel as there are so many restaurants to discover in Barcelona but anytime we wanted snacks , we would grab from the buffet. Staff is very helpful. gave us great tips..I would def go back and stay there.

We stayed at Hotel Continental for 2 nights, pre-cruise. I had read enough reviews, not to expect the same standards as an American chain, though the room was very clean and comfortable. We had a balcony on La Ramblas and with the door closed in the evening, we couldn't hear anything. Great soundproofing. Yes it's designed with pink and a lot of plastic, but it made no difference to us. We asked that the room not be cleaned, because we'd have too much to put away, but were still offered clean towels.
There were a bunch of us cruisers staying there, so the patio was a comfortable and convenient place to meet each other and catch up on our day. The "free" beer, wine & soda was nice to have available. The 24 hr buffet...well, don't expect to get a full meal. It's good for snacking or grazing.
The elevator is old and very slow, so we used the stairs a lot. Also, the hotel is secure with buzzers to let you in, since they share a building.
Lastly and most importantly, my fiend whom I was with left a necklace in the safe and never even realized it. After we came home, I had an email letting us know that they had found it, WOW!! That was impressive. I asked them to send a picture of it, which they did (since we had no idea if it was even ours), then we communicated with them about sending it back. If I'm staying in Barcelona again, I'd definitely stay here.

My husband and I recently went to Barcelona and stayed at the Hotel Continental for 3 nights. Overall the location is fantastic. It's right on the Las Ramblas, close to the Metro, and close to major sites. There was free WiFi which is always a plus.

The hotel itself was pretty bad. First the hotel hasn't been updated probably since the 1950s. The elevator was really small and shook a lot riding up which was uncomfortable. When we opted to take the the stairs down to the street level it felt like someone was waiting around the corner for you. Once we finished checking in and they directed us to the 24 hour buffet. Some of the food looks like it was sitting out there for days with nats flying around it. We just stuck to dry cereal for breakfast. Housekeeping only came once while we were there even after we requested it.

The rooms are very small with rock hard beds and plastic drawers for you to put your clothes in. The bathroom is a totally different story. The sliding door to bathroom never worked and my husband got stuck in there a couple of times. The bathtub is really high and I slipped and bruised my knee one morning. The room in general were very uncomfortable to be in.

The hotel walls are paper thin. Our first night was a Saturday night and we can hear people up and down the hallways, talking outside in the courtyard, etc. Basically we did not sleep well one night when were there. Maybe next time we should bring ear plugs.

Having said that the hotel is great on a budget. Its pretty cheap so we basically got what we paid for. The staff in general was nice just wish the owners would put some money into updating the hotel.
