Our first trip to Barcelona and we didn't know much about getting around the city outside of what a little internet research and our handy 10 Days in Barcelona book by DK. We got off the plane and bought a rail pass to go from the airport on the Renfe to the purple line (stop at Clot to get on the purple line) then took the purple line to the Monumental stop. Off of the train and walking two city blocks and we were at the hotel early. Like 12 pm early. We checked in and in 5 minutes they had room 413 ready for us. The front staff spoke Catalan, Castillian (regular ol' Spanish) and English very well and there were no language barriers for us.
We took the elevator up to the room with our bags (enough room for the two of us, our bags, and maybe a third). We made our way down the hallway and used the passkey to get through the solid sound proof door. A very clean room welcomed us, it was spacious by European standards and we set to unpacking immediately.
The closet was ample enough for our clothes, the safe worked, and the plug-ins around the room were ample for re-charging our iPads and iPods. I hopped into the bathroom that was equipped with a bidet and a bathtub. The water pressure was excellent for my shower, the one weird thing is that instead of a fan vent, there was a small lockable window in there that was shared with the neighboring room. Nothing to be alarmed by, but still a little odd.
Logging onto the free wi-fi required a code for each device and the speed was excellent and signal was not an issue (was able to watch videos on youtube with little to no buffering at all).
The room was quiet with the window shut but we left the window open most nights as the traffic noise was quite minimal.
The bed was comfortable and well lit when needed with enough access around the whole double when sharing the room.
The television had only stations in Catalan and Spanish but that should be expected.
We did the breakfast two days during the trip and found it worth the money. A selection of fresh meats, cheeses, breads, and juices were available. We had a couple of bowls of cereal only to find the hot milk was set out. Corn flakes turn out to be really bad in hot milk. The women running the breakfast area are more than happy to get cold milk if asked though, so it's not a problem.
Check out was a breeze with no surprise charges (we were told about the very minimal city tax when we checked in, I think it was .78 euros a day or something like that).
Location was spot on with its proximity to the ample Barcelona transit system (we got a 4 day pass which made life so much easier). Restaurants, grocery stores, and Sagrada Familia were all in short walking distances making this hotel even more valueable.
What it comes down to is I would have no problem ever recommending this hotel to friends or family and would stay here again were I to return to Barcelona.
