“Good value for money, great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

I stayed here with my mom from Septermber 30th to October 4th for our first visit in Barcelona.
All in all, it's a fine 3 stars hotel for it's price with clean rooms, fantastic location with a 2 minute walk from the metro and 10 minute walk from La Rambla and free Wi-Fi access. If i'll ever return to Barcelona i'll definitely consider staying at Laietana Palace again.

-Location, Location, Location-
The travel agency offered this hotel since we asked for a central location and indeed the location is perfect. It's located in the Barri Gotic area, my favorite part of the city with tons of things to see around and lovely little alleys to wonder in. It's very close to the Cathedral (don't miss it, and go upstairs!) and only a 10 minute walk to La Ramblas and a 2 minute walk to Jaume I metro station (The L4 yellow line).

-Hotel, rooms and some tips-
The hotel is pretty basic and definitely not a 4 stars hotel, more like 3, but it was very clean. The rooms are fine, not my choice of decor but with just enough room for 2 adults in twin beds to have some space and not feel too crowded. Beds were hard and not too comfy but we managed it. Notice there's only 2 available power sockets so bring an extension cord if you have some gadgets.
There's a kettle but no coffee provided, so If you fancy a coffee before breakfast there's a handy supermarket just downstairs. We got coffee and some mlik there and large bottles of waters (0.70 cents for a 1.5 liter bottle, instead of 1.5€ for a small bottle in busy tourist areas) . You can store the milk on the mini bar, it has enough space.

Our room faced the Roman Wall and what seems to be a hospital. Not a great view but quite quite compared to the busy Via Laietana street, if Ambulance sirens don't bother you too much (and once you close the window you can't really hear them).
There's no special rooms for smokers but they allow smoking in the room next to the windows. If you smoke it's very comfy, if you don't and you get a room like ours where 2 people smoked in, it might bother you so just ask to switch rooms.

-Breakfast-
Breakfast is self served and pretty basic. Beans or bacon with eggs, toast, some cheese, cornflakes, some fruits, yogurt, orange juice, coffee and some deserts. The desserts were poor, everything else was fine.

-Staff-
Staff was ok, some of them weren't too friendly but others have been very helpful with directions and even spoke English (kinda rare in Barcelona).

-WiFi access-
The hotel offers free Wi-Fi access that worked perfectly in our room on the 3rd floor. Ask for your username and password at the reception, and if you have more than one device per person (a laptop and smartphone each) ask for some more, and if they don't give you more than one just come back later when there's another receptionist at the desk

My wife and I stayed here from 19th to 23rd September. We chose this hotel for its location and I can honestly say that is the only thing good I can say about this hotel. The Room walls were so thin we could hear every movement and sound from the rooms next door. The Tea and Coffee making facilities consisted of a kettle and 1 cup. There was only 1 pillow on bed, the bed was more like a single than a double. The bath did not have a plug. Only one bedside lamp worked. On the first day the hallway smelt of Nappies, the second day bleach and the third day something else !!! This hotel is no way a four star. I never saw one person in the bar area downstairs in the whole four nights of our stay which tells you something. Overall not impressed and would definately not stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms at another hotel would be better !

I stayed here for about a week with a couple of friends in august, we shared 2 rooms, one with 2 beds one with 3, the bigger one had 2 balconies, which was pure luxury :) ...Our rooms were not the biggest but big enough for our needs, having in mind that we didnt stay a lot there, Rooms looked well, wondows/balcony with view over Laietana street, walking distance to La Rambla and beach, are you lazy, np, buss stops just outside the hotel and takes you to the beach quickly :)

Staff was good, tryed their best, some things could be done batter, for example we hade some probles with the electrecity in one of the rooms, our ipads/mobiles didnt get charged, however it worked well on the other room.

The best thing about the hotel is probably the location, sure, when I come back I can imagine to staye there again, eather there, or in some other hotel but one the same street, thanx for an amazing week guys :)

I would probably give this 3.5 stars if i could. The hotel was very nice and clean but nothing special. Staff were friendly and helpful and wifi was included which was a nice bonus. The rooms are a reasonable size and perfectly comfortable for a long weekend.
Really you are paying for the location more than anything else. It is within easy walk of numerous bars and restaurants while also being close to both the marina and city centre.
There is a bus stop for the city tours approx 5 mins away and the airport buses in the city are more like a 15 minute walk but personally worth the effort rather than paying for a taxi.
City tours are well worth doing as its an easy way to see everything there is and you can hop on and off as much as you please.
Overall a fantastic city with lots to do for all ages and a great mixture given that you have the city and the beach all in one place.

This hotel is located on a parallel street to Las Ramblas, so it's very central, but also very busy until late at night. Location is why we choose it and we were pleasantly surprised:

Impressive lobby, free wireless internet, the room was cleaned once a day, air conditioning worked excellently - we needed that due to the hot weather!

We didn't have breakfast - can't judge that. Instead of paying 12€ for breakfast, we usually got our breakfast elsewhere.

We didn't have trouble with any of the receptionsists - the communicated in English and that worked fine.

If you come by car - I don't think there are parking spaces at the hotel. I can recommend to use a parking lot, that people normally use who go on a cruise.

For light sleepers my advice is to make sure you don't get a room that is facing the street (or make sure your room will be on a high level - then you don't hear the noises coming from the street as much).

We were on the 4th floor (room 404), the window facing the street (although we asked for a quiet room via email ahead of time) and we could hear the cars and people outside, so the windows were shut most of the time, so it wasn't as loud.

Negative aspect: Apart from the noises coming from outside, the walls were thin! When neighbours next to us or on a room a level above us "got busy" at night, we heard it.

Bizzare: There was a telephone with an integrated camera in the rest room.
Bizarre also: The magnetic room door cards didn't work sometimes, so we receptionist gave us new ones.

It's not a 4 star hotel! I was in Barcelona for work and decided to stay in the city centre. The hotel has a perfect location, nearby barcelona's best attractions. Everything was very clean but the rooms are tiny and have an old fashioned style. They need maintenance and to be restyled . For eg the minibar closet door couldn t be opened. The toilet was very clean, but had two plugs out of the wall. The breakfast was normal but farway from a 4 star service. To wrap up there was no attention to the detail what is not normal in a 4 stars hotel.i

Can only repeat what other have said - great location, not really 4 *, transport right outside (bus) and 2 min walk to metro (James 1 station). Shops and eateries, of every description at all prices, within a few minutes in all directions. If you want a real plate full try Dunnes Irish Pub two door up. It not worth eating in the hotel as it's expensive!! The staff were very helpful, we arrived very late on a Sunday but they were very understanding, plus the day we left the flight was not until 21.30 and after checking out by 12 noon they were only too happy for us to leave all our cases with them to be picked up early evening - many thanks. Room was comfortable howbeit the mattress a bit on the hard side for us. Great choice of pillow types - never come across this before!! We were on the 5th floor and the only 'noise' from the street below was the rare ambulance/police siren even considering that this part of the city never seem to sleep!!
There were comment about the smell - not noticed in the hotel but I think some of the local sewers are in need of replacing, as on a number of occasions, whilst walking around, you can get quite a strong blast from the drains!

Room Tip: Higher room the better.
