“Conveniently located”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

Stayed here couple of nights last August. Conveniently located, a short walk from the metro station 'Hospital Clinic' which connects to the city center within minutes. The room was comfortable and clean though not very spacious. However, I wasn't too impressed by the black interiors of both the lobby and the room, which gave the hotel a rather gloomy dark aura. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant but has a small bar which serves simple dishes as well. There are dozens of eateries in the vicinity so food should not be an issue. Not a bad hotel at all for a short stay.

Great service and hotel room was confortable and large. Also quite close to Hospital-clinic metro station and good bus connections to plaza catalunia and port area with bus 59...
What I did not like is the sound profing between rooms especially with flooring, I guess best would be to stay on higest floor for a perfect stay

4 days in Barcelona based out of this surprisingly good hotel. Perfect distance from La Ramblas (6EUR Taxi Ride - same as taking the bus for three of us), excellent restaurants in local vicinity, easy access to all major attractions, etc.

Hotel and rooms very clean with all top notch facilities including a very private and relaxing roof terrace with day beds and views over the city.

Staff extremely friendly and always available. Breakfast was great with plenty of choices including hot buffet.

Will visit again.

Room Tip: Higher floors are much quieter as hotel on a busy street - but with good sound insulation

Having based our decision to stay at this hotel on the average ratings and reviews on Tripadvisor, we have been left wondering how keen the site is on monitoring fake reviews (they claim zero-tolerance, but that says little for how the reviews are verified).
I find it staggering that the average ratings offered suggest that the worst thing about U232 is the location, and that all other aspects are universally scored between 'very good' and 'excellent'. The hotel is situated within two blocks (maybe 100m or so) of an underground metro station, and pretty much all the city is accessible from this brilliant public service (probably Barcelona's crowning glory, given the overhyped nature of the rest of the city). The hotel has restaurants, cafes and supermarkets within a very short walk in most directions and unless you want a beach on the doorstep (in a CITY!!) then it's hard to fault the location.
The service was average, at best. It seemed quite evident that there is a poor customer service culture in the city as a whole, and the staff at the hotel were in keeping with this. Not especially rude, but certainly happy to ignore guests as they enter and leave the building - and on many occasions even pretending to read something after glancing up and seeing us coming. Room service was delivered with a degree of disinterest, the staff seeming disgruntled that they were asked to perform this duty. That said, the food offered (supposedly direct from the on-site restaurant) was little more than pre-packed, frozen food, warmed up in their oven, so room service was not a function we found reason to indulge in too often.
The gym has been mentioned quite a bit, and although it is small (as mentioned by other reviewers), it does offer guests the chance to have a run/cycle and lift a few free weights each day, rather than being the all-encompassing workout some people apparently desire when on a city break holiday. It's clean, modern and serves its purpose well.
The room we booked was a double, although we were stuck in a room with two (decent sized) single beds, pushed together. Great for those who like to feel the space around them, not so good for a married couple who actually want to enjoy a double room! The beds are also very 'firm'. That is to say, unless you prefer a rock-hard mattress, you will (WILL) suffer back-ache.
The ambient temperature in the hotel seems stuck at 30 degrees, so the use of air-con is necessary for northern Europeans (and the sane amongst us who prefer a shower without the effect of walking into a sauna straight afterward).
All in all, I wouldn't recommend this hotel, because there isn't anything here that could be found in many other hotels, but I wouldn't suggest anyone will hate it here either. If you are just looking for a clean, well-located base to explore Barcelona from, this is fine. If you want to spend a few days in a room, however, then you'll have to be happy to suffer a hard mattress, awful room service, little room to swing your belongings around and no threat of conversation with the staff, if this is your destination. Great location, very ordinary hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 9th and 10th floor are ideal for those wanting to use the gym. Some reckon lower levels...

Dear U232 guest,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your personal opinion about your recent stay at our hotel. I am very concerned, however, with your questioning the authenticity and validity of our well earned comments, as well as their objectivity. I understand and respect your dissatisfaction, but that does not give you the right to question the opinion of many other satisfied clients, whose reviews my staff works very hard at deserving. I am also very surprised in regards to your comments about Barcelona as a quality tourist destination, especially after being rated one of the worldwide top destinations according to millions of TripAdvisor reviewers.

Nevertheless I take good note of your suggestions for improvement, specially those concerning our Room Service.

Best regards from beautiful Barcelona,

Asun Pareja

lovely peaceful hotel. Stayed for 4 nights & slept in silence every night which is a rarity for most hotels these days. Breakfast was very nice with friendly service and plenty of food to choose from. The bar area is lovely & clean, and is great for some nice relaxing evening drinks. Distance from the main tourist area is a nice walk which takes about 25 mins. There is a metro stop 2 mins away which makes it an idea location, away from the hustle and bustle but still accessible to good transport links. I would love to return to this hotel again one day.

Spent 4 nights at the U232 over Christmas.Great location and an easy walk into downtown Barcelona. The hotel itself is spotless and well maintained.Good sized room with comfy beds.We were in room 605 which overlooked flats at the rear but this didn't matter too much as we were always out and about.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful with any queries.Would definitely go back to the U232.

Stayed here with wife back in September 2013 as part of our trip to attend the FC Barcelona game. Location is pretty much in the heart of the city; convenient as it is less than 5 mins walk from the closest metro. Room was clean and spacious. My only dislike was the dark tiles in the bathroom and lack of a kettle in the room. Staff could also be more friendly.
