“Nice hotel in good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Just back from 4 nights stay at the NH Master hotel in Barcelona. There are a number of NH hotels in Barcelona. I chose this one because the price ( booked through Expedia ) was very reasonable, the location seemed about right ( not too far from Sants railway station ) and other reviews seemed favourable. Our room was modern and clean with all the usual facilities, double glazed to keep out the traffic noise. You could open the windows, though, if you wanted a blast of cool air. Plenty of complimentary toiletries and towels changed regularly. Multi chanel TV but don't expect to get BBC or ITV etc.
Based on other reviews we didn't take the 11 Euro breakfast, but instead went out to eat. There are a number of cafes where you can get breakfast for a much more reasonable price. Would recommend Dino Pans just down the road where you can get coffee and a croissant for Euro 1.50 ! Brush up on your Spanish though as English is not widely spoken. This is not holiday Spain - you are in the real Spain.
The hotel didn't have a restaurant open when we were there, so you have to go out for meals. The Tomate cafe across the road does some interesting food, and if you want a cheap and lively night go to the Salzburg cafe a couple of blocks up the road. There are lots of other places to eat depending on your tastes and wallet. Tapas are served virtually everywhere.
Although there is a bar in the hotel, connected to the lounge, it didn't actually serve drinks while we were there. Instead it was sort of self serve ! You helped yourself to drinks from the chiller cabinet, made a note of what you'd had , and then paid at reception. If you fancy a last drink before bedtime, better to go across the road to the Tomate cafe. Nice bar, lots of locals, and good atmosphere.
The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the Sants station, which connects you by rail to the airport. The journey from there takes about 25 minutes. The hotel is also within walking distance of Barelona centre ( Sagradra Familia, Placa Catalunya, Ramblas etc ) although you can take the Metro if you prefer. Don't miss the food market on the Ramblas. Fantastic variety of food at very reasonable prices.
There are NH hotels nearer the centre of Barcelona, but I would recommend staying a little way out, as it will be quieter, probably cheaper, and certainly the district in which the NH master was located was very respectable with all the food shops, cafes and restauarants you'll need.

Centrally located. Took the bus from the airport. (10 Euros) It was the 2nd stop for the airport bus. Had to walk directly north 5 blocks and it was to the right. small grocery stores to get snacks and drinks right around the corner. Staff were not really helpful trying to find a resturant fairly close. Sent me to one and we couldn't find it anywhere. They were not going to look it up to find out exactly where it was, they just said go to this street and it should be there. Within walking distance (15 min- 25 min) to about anywhere we wanted to go. Had the best meal in the Market Place on the Ramblas.
Hotel had all the amenities. Clean, centrally located. No complaints other than the staff weren't going to help more than they had to. They all spoke english well enough and they were pleasant, not especially motivated to make your stay special.

Great location for trip to Barcelona, really is 20 mins walk to La Ramblas to the east and 45mins to Guell Park.Room was clean, and cleaned every day with fresh towels, and supply of toiletries.Breakfast at Hotel was 15 Euro, but 11 Euro if booked previous day.Good selection but rather expensive. There are a number of Cafes within walking distance that give good breakfast and are much cheaper.Would recommend Cafe Tomato across the road for evening meals.Overall I would recommend this Hotel.

Room Tip: Needed tea/coffee making facilities in room .

Average 3* hotel in nice district. Hotel restaurant was closed during our stay. There were some small mould (or sth like that) in the bathroom wall. Except for that it was quite clean and quiet. Nice but nothing special.

I spent a week at this hotel and had a great time. The air conditioning was great and the staff were always very kind and helpful. I couldn't have asked for more. I'd happily stay at this hotel again as long as the price is right.

Room Tip: Ask for what you want.

We got this booking through American Airlines Vacation and expected it to be a place where professionals are made comfortable. We got there at 11 a.m. and were told that check-in was at 3 p.m. and even though rooms were available, if we wanted to check in early we would have to pay $12.50 per hour! to stay there even though we would be leaving the next morning at 8 a.m. to catch our flight out of Barcelona. We left our luggage and went sightseeing and then when we returned we were informed that the "breakfast" included was being served only on summer hours from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and there would be no accommodations for early travelers. They said that "probably" there might be coffee available in the morning, but there was none. It seemed that their whole attitude was -- give as little service as possible in return for as much nickel-and-diming that you can get away with. We were thoroughly disappointed and felt the small, cramped room with no amenities was hardly worth the $118 charged through AA. The room was noisy and the plumbing made a horrible racket when you used the shower (or when a neighbor used theirs). There is no accommodation for wheelchair accessibility (e.g. you have to get your wheeled suitcases up a flight of stairs to get to the reception desk--and absolutely no one lifted a finger to help carry any bag anywhere). So to call this hotel part of the "service industry" is a total misnomer.

Room Tip: I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
