“Reasonable Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

My family and I spent 3 nights at this hotel in the second week of September. We had the triple room on the first floor. The room (including the bathroom) needs some sprucing up. Some portion of the curtains had come of the rails and so could not be drawn completely to cut out the sun light streaming in, in the morning. As we were out of the room in the morning this was not a big issue. Other than that the room was tidy. As the room faced the main street it was quite noisy with the windows fully open as it was quite warm. But we had the windows only slightly open and this did cut down most of the noise. So apart from the first night, the rest of the nights were relatively peaceful.

The location of the hotel was quite ideal for the visits to the different locations in Barcelona. We had the BCN cards and used the Hospital Clinic station to start our journey on the metro. The station was about 20 minutes walk from the hotel. We also felt quite safe to walk at this hotel location.

The hotel room has a safe and for a refundable deposit we hired a lock and key which slots into the safe to lock it. On the last day of stay we were able to leave our luggage in the safe room and wander around the city without the hassle of dragging the luggage around with us.

The hotel receptionist were generally friendly and helpful with our questions.

We had breakfast included as part of the hotel package we bought. Not much to boast about. Could have been better with selection of hot food if they had any.

Apart from the issues I mentioned we had a reasonably stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: May be worth asking for a room away from the main and side streets.

The room we paid for was very inexpensive for 2 people but the rooms were still very spacious and well kept. Only about a mile from La Rambla and the port; About two miles from Barceloneta. We were able to walk everywhere except we taxi'd to park guell and it was safe in the area at night.

Nearest metro stops are a good 7-8 min speed walks away. Don't bother trying to walk from Barcelona Sants station all the way to the hotel with luggages in stow and just take a cab. Those are long blocks you will have to cover. No complimentary breakfast. Room was ok with average furnishing. A little better than some of the European hotels we've stayed in. Reception staff are cordial but doesn't radiate customer pleasing friendliness.

For a 3 star hotel, it is really good. Spacious rooms, well equipped, great a/c, clean bathrooms, attentive housekeeping, free wifi access with a computer in the lobby. Breakfast is not top-notch not even for a 3-star. Reception were really helpful and well-aware of touristic attractions, buses, reservations and all. Downside, it's far from catalunia square and the nearest bus/metro station to it is a 10-minute walk.

Just back from a 4 night stay at this hotel and had a great time!
We were visiting barcelona for the Motogp so were looking for a hotel near Sants station for ease. This hotel was a 10 minute walk away which was perfect.
Our room was on the 7th floor. It was clean, quiet and had air con which was a god send!
I know some reviews slate the area but it was only a 10 minute walk to Universitat and another 5 to la ramblas. This was perfect for us.
We got this hotel for a great price and it was worth every penny! Would definitely stay here again :)

Location:

Overall the hotel has a good location, it's location is a 15 minute walk from a major train station (Barcelona-Sants) where you can use the metro as well. Getting to and from the airport is easy as there is a direct train link with a train every 30 minutes running all day to 11pm. Taxis from the airport will cost you 30 Euros. The area however is not the best, in terms of the fact there is not many big restaurants and you get the sense it is a very business and residential area. Nevertheless there are a few good cafes for breakfast, one across the street is small but cheap. Note that due to the area, this is not your typical tourist hotel (which you may see as a benefit or drawback).

Room:

Stayed in a double room which was quite big with a nice sized bathroom. It is very clean, has great air con, a big TV, has WiFi (request for scratch code at the desk), includes a safe (10 Euro deposit required for a key) and includes a mini fridge. We heard no noise from the other rooms and slept very well. The maids are excellent at cleaning the room as well.

Staff:

Staff are typical Spanish staff, I would never call them friendly but they do their job and will answer your questions. All spoke English.

Word of warning:

For some bizarre reason they will charge you a city tax when you check out (10 Euros for a week for us), why this isn't included in the bill in the first place I have no idea.

We had booked a different hotel but as we got there they had no recollection of our booking. After lengthy conversations with Travel Republic, they moved us to AB Villadomat.

The hotel was very nice. Room and bathroom were spacious. Breakfast was okay (cornflakes were like cardboard unfortunately), with a good selection of food and fresh baguettes. Maldo who worked at the bar was lovely, he was there in the morning and then late at night still smiling. The only cons were that it would be nice to have tea and coffee facilities in the room.

The hotel is about 10-15 minute’s walk to the nearest metro station or train station. Might feel like a lot, but we found it just about tolerable (in relation to where we should have been staying), as you get the opportunity to see a lot more of Barcelona outside the busy tourist spots. We have done lots of walking anyway so this felt like nothing.

We spent the day on the bus Turistic which was really good. Definitely recommend going to Park Guell and Tibidabo, both weren’t too busy so you could have a look around in a nice relaxing atmosphere. We had a few meals on La Rambla which weren’t the best, would definitely recommend eating in Gothic area or side streets off La Rambla. La Fonda was great, we had a really good meal and the bill was very reasonable – worth checking out, and we wished we had found it earlier in our stay!
