We stayed two nights at this hotel in early February. The location is superb - a minute's walk from La Rambla and about 5-10 mins from the Aerobus stop. The staff were very friendly and we were offered a glass of (very delicious!) cava on arrival. The room was modern and spotless. The bathroom had two washhand basins and a huge array of toiletries including a shaving kit and combs! From reading previous reviews we decided to skip breakfast in the hotel as it was too expensive, however we were offered breakfast on the first morning at a special 50% rate. That was worth it as there is a good selection to choose from. This hotel is situated in the old part of the city and is surrounded by lots of interesting little shops and cafes. If any girls reading this are into jewellery making (as I am) there is an excellent bead shop right beside the hotel. There are several more in the vicinity but some of them are trade only and in some you have to buy a set minimum number of beads. On a practical note the Aerobus is the cheapest way to get from the airport, and very straightforward. Also, as with all cities, stopping for a coffee or snack on La Rambla will be much more expensive than heading off the main street. The food market just off La Rambla is worth going to even if you are just looking! It also has lots of little tapas establishments (counters/stalls) which are packed with locals.

We arrived @10pm and were offered a glass of cava which was a nice start. The receptionist then led us to the room which smelt badly of smoke. I had put in the booking notes we wanted a non-smoking room. We were given a different room which was fine but there were ash trays present so we assumed it was still a smoking room but it was fresh and clean so we took it. During the night it was apparent the air con did not work and the room was stuffy and warm, when I opened the window noise from the alley below was annoying so we closed it again. I point this out as it could be a problem in the summer when the weather gets hot. Otherwise room was clean and bathroom nice although the room was quite small. Maids did a nice job too.
The free internet use is useful and the free coffee/tea and cakes is a nice touch. The nearby Duc De La Victoria in which we stayed on our last visit to Barcelona in my opinion is a far superior Hotel. Yes the Raco Del Pi has a great location and some nice touches but thats about it I'm afraid. Average.

Second visit to this hotel and fouth visit to Barcelona. This is by far the best hotel we have stayed in, perfectly located, very helpful polite staff and lovely modern spacious clean bedroom and bathroom - fresh flowers and lots of toiletries provided daily. Lovely little bakery opposite hotel served breakfast very resonable. Excellent location in gothic quarter to walk everywhere and feel very safe. Easy walk from Aerobus, tour bus shops and la rambla to hotel. We wouldnt want to stay anywhere else, looking forward to returning. Stayed on 3rd floor overlooking front of hotel with small balcony, no noise problem at night at all and beds very comfortable. Heard several people in reception of different ages happily returning again and again.

Having booked and confirmed the Raco Del Pi months in advance we were appalled to find that they had given our room to someone else - although at first they said it was 'a flood in the room' - as we arrived at 6pm, tired from our flight. They then asked us to wheel our suitcases a few blocks to another hotel (The Duc del la Victoria), and requested we come back the next day after 12pm (check-out time). We came back and were given a tiny room at the front of the hotel on the second floor which was incredibly noisy as the street is a pedestrian thoroughfare. We requested a quieter room and were moved to the rear first floor to be woken at 6am after an uncomfortable sleep by the sound of crashing pots and pans - we were above the kitchen!

We decided then to go back to the Duc de la Victoria which for the same price had much larger rooms, a really comfortable bed with a proper sprung matress, and a big beautiful bathroom. We also had a big terrace balcony overlooking the bari gotic. The difference in quality of these two hotels was amazing, and i don't understand how the Raco Del Pi is rated 4 star. The rooms are old and tired and small, and the beds thin old traditional unsprung matresses - hopeless for dodgy backs.

Beautiful, clean, large room, very helpful and friendy staff, excellent central location in gothic quarter, cava on arrival...we couldn't have asked for anything more!

(However do not take the hotel's restaurant recommendation...it was incredibly overpriced and there are many much better options in the immediate locality.)

Highly recommend Irati restaurant and Taller de Tapas (in del Pi square), visit to Cathedral Roof, Park Guell and La Pedreda etc, the Perfume museum, Picasso Museum, Castle Montjuic, the Zoo, the Olympic park..and the cafe in the textile museum and the bar 'Bosc des Fades'..

Have a wonderful stay!
