“Excellent location and value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel which is well located for the waterfront in Barcelona and about a 10 minute walk from the La Rambla. We checked in to the hotel late afternoon and seemed to have a choice of rooms. We were on the 6th floor and had a balcony and a great view over Barcelona (although being on the front of the hotel it was slightly noisey). The room was very nice and had english tv (that's not why we go)! The price included breakfast and there was so much to chose from and it was very good. We didn't need to eat again until mid afternoon and then all we had was a tapas to see us through to the evening. There are lots of bars and restaurants nearby and as it is just of the beaten track many of them are inexpensive. We found 2 traditional restaurants on Carrer De Margarit which were excellent. We would go back to this hotel without a doubt. The underground was just next to the hotel.

Room Tip: We were in room 662 with a balcony and view over the city although it was a bit noisey. We were off...

We really appreciate your kind words in regards our facilities and we really can’t wait to receive you back. 662 is a really nice room with awesome views but we also want to show you other great rooms we have! Please contact us before you come back!

This is a fairly dated four star hotel in a great location right near the Paralel metro (L3) station. The interior design is now dated - has strong late eighties feel. We were unfortunate to get one of the rooms on the second floor above the disco - you could hear people chatting away until the early morning. The next night we had a flash mob outside protesting which again kept us up. That said the room was ok, it had LCD tv with decent channels including BBC 1 and 2. Comfortable beds, hair dryer, aC, safe, toiletries. Didn't try the food at the hotel but it does have restaurant and bar and seemed to be reasonably priced. The reception spoke English well and even lent me a travel adaptor. This place is ideal for the location - its near la ramblas, the port, the funicular to take the cable carts. It's literally opposite Nou da la ramblas which is a great side street for bars, restaurants, kebabs etc. Note there is an adult shop as well near by.

spent 3 nights here and from all the reviews had thought i had picked a really good hotel.

hotel
- the hotel is ok- room is nice, clean but a bit dated.
- BIG issue however during winter is the heating- it was on FULL and so we were baking in the room all night. on the day we checked in one of the other visitors asked at the reception if they could turn it down and was told no- its winter- so they keep it up and cant change it at all...Really???
- there isnt any information available in the room as to when is breakfast, where is this "fitness club"
- no tea making facilities
- bathroom isnt that great-bath looked rather old and shower head rusted

the location - my biggest issue
1) located off las ramblas - we took the nou de rambla road which was packed with fruit and veg shops and in the evening was really dodgy to walk down (2 asian girls walking down a multicultural area..you get the picture)... so every evening we would walk as FAST as we could down the road as we didnt feel that safe.

2) opposite the hotel there is a strip club so to speak.. named bagdad...which opens early and what i didnt realise was that the area the hotel is in used to be the red light district??!

3) at night...I DIDNT SLEEP AT ALL.... our room was off the main road so from the reviews i thought we were on a winner...no such luck..ALL night there was a crowd of people who made so much noise- shouting, screaming, laughing..it was crazy..they were at it ALL night..and even with the "double glazing" it was really loud. it was ridiculous...if i had stayed longer- i would have complained but our first night which was a sunday- we were knakered and i think they werent out there that night..for 2 nights- was there any point of changing the room?

on the postive side- the metro is outside the hotel so can use that to go to other places

i would however suggest that if not using the metro DONT get the T10 card as we paid 10 euros and used it only four times.

Did get some good advice from the reception on leaving about getting to the airport- take the metro to espanya and there is the aerobus stop opposite- means you get to airport within 15 mins depending on traffic!!

stay in example area...looks better

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments after your stay. While we are happy to know that you liked our Hotel, we are disappointed to hear about the unpleasant impression you have had from our location.
One of the most valued features of the TRYP Apolo is its location and this is also what many other travellers share with their reviews.
In regards to the noise, taking into account we are in the city centre sometimes the activity of the city can be perceived, but we are so concerned about your comments and please rest assured we will take the necessary measures in order to avoid this matter to happen again.
Thank you so much for your constructive review and please note we remain at your entire disposal for anything you may need.

Warm regards,
Guest Experience Manager

We stayed 4 nights in comfort with friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful, although there was a slight bottleneck waiting to be seated. The hotel is within walking distance to the waterfront, aquarium, La Rambla, and neighborhood tiendas. Buses, taxis and a metro station are just outside the front door making travel to other sights uncomplicated and inexpensive. The hotel was very busy with our group of 250 and another group of 50, and the front desk handled each of our demands with ease. We felt very welcome and really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: The rooms on the front of the hotel have a beautiful view of the city, but there is some street nois...

Good hotel with friendly helpful staff. Excellent transport links with a Metro station and bus stop just outside. Location was really good being just a few minutes walk from La Rambla and on the edge of the Gothic quarter and also a few minutes walk from the leisure area of the old port. There is a pick-up point for the (highly recommended) Barcelona tourist bus also at the port. We were in a 1st floor room above the main road but were not disturbed at all. They had a special offer for breakfast which we took and were very glad we did - lots of choice, lots of food!

We stayed for 3 nights on the 3rd November, and would like to firstly mention the excellent location. It is situated right outside the Parel-lel Metro station, where you can also pick up the Funicular de Montjuic railway which takes you to the Olympic park, it is also an approx 15 min metro journey straight to the Nou Camp, and accessible to pretty much all the sights in Barcelona.

On arriving at the hotel, the receptionist informed us that the hotel is fully booked therefore we will be upgraded to the next grade of room...Result! The room was very nice and comfortable and seemed pretty modern and had everything I would expect in a hotel, it even had a treadmill!!

We found the hotel staff very friendly, and when asked if he could recommend a good Tapas bar, was very helpfull in recommending a bar he personally uses, and printed off directions and even suggested when jumping in a taxi, make sure you are on the other side of the road as it will be cheaper.

With regards to the noise late at night, we had a room overlooking the street, and didn't find it a problem at all. In all honesty, if you going to stay in a lively city such as Barcelona in a city centre, i think you need to expect a little bit of activity...but we generally didn't find it loud enough to be a nuisance.

All in all, we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at this hotel, and would definitely recommend staying again.

We stayed 4 nights 7 - 11 November. Excellent location, a few minutes walk from Las Ramblas, right by the metro station so no problem arriving with luggage - just be sure to look for the exit marked Funicular Montjuic, it's to the side of the main exit. Then when you get to street level, the first word you see is "Tryp," so it couldn't be easier. Lovely room, comfortable bed, hot shower, everything spotless. Hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful. We'd booked room & breakfast and weren't disappointed - good value compared with food served elsewhere. A fine choice - 4 kinds of cereal, 3 different milks, an array of fruit and yoghourt, 9 different cold meats and 5 cheeses, a selection of breads, 8 different pastries, a selection of teas, coffees and juices, hot food was bacon, eggs, beans, sausage, tomato - but sadly this was only tepid most mornings, however that is the only grouse - you could still enjoy a full breakfast.
We'll definitely book this hotel again, no question about that.
