“Amazing apartment, unhelpful front desk!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

The top floor apartment we stayed in here was unbelievable! Really made you say ‘wow’ when you entered, the fixtures and fittings were of a high standard and the view from the balcony of the Sagrada Familia was beautiful. I was here with a group of 9 girls as part of a 4 day trip for my laid back Hen Do. I could not fault the apartment itself, it was spacious – the kitchen was stocked with all the glasses and crockery we could need, there was adequate storage space and it was very clean and tidy. There were plenty of towels and a hairdryer and iron for your use. All I can say is thank God the apartment was amazing because the check in process was absolutely dyer! We arrived at 2pm to be told that we could not check in until 3pm, which was frustrating after our flight but understandable. However, we waited over an hour to put our bags into storage for this time and to actually check in and collect the key for later use... which we were eager to obtain as we noticed a number of groups of people queuing and we wanted to avoid having to do the same again when we returned. We went to the shops nearby to stock up for the weekend and returned at 4.15 to be told our room was still not ready. At this point there were also 3 other families and another group of 8 girls who were in the same position as us and had been waiting hours to get into the apartments they had booked. The reception staff were not helpful, they were very rude and to make matters even more infuriating they seemed unable to deal with one group of guests at a time, and therefore flitted between us but never actually achieving anything or allowing us to check into our rooms and deal with our grievances. We finally insisted we went to our apartment even though it was not ready and found the maids still cleaning it, which was fine by us, we just wanted to start our holiday! Despite this we had a truly amazing 4 days in Barcelona, the hotel is on a quiet street but taxis are easy to flag down and relatively cheap. There are plenty of things to do to keep you busy and you could walk to the marina within about 25 mins. We did not choose these apartments for the ‘pool’ but note it is only knee deep. Thankfully we had no further dealings with the front desk other than to hand the key in at the end of our stay!

First trip to Barcelona so proximity to metro was important - the DF Rosello are less than 1 min away from S. Familia metro stop. Beside the Metro, you can also catch either of the 2 city sightseeing buses and it's wise to try to get on the upper deck at this stop as alot of people leave to see the S. Familia and there will be free seats. Apartment (2-bed) was facing the church (not all do) was very clean and had a high-standard of fittings (but you would expect this from the price as it is expensive by Barcelona apartment standards). Rooftop terrace (small) we used almost every day but don't count it - only 6 deck chairs, so in busy season would be full up. Some good restaurants nearby. 24-hour reception for an apartment complex is unusual and good for peace of mind. Only negative was that lift broke down (not the managements fault - guests overloaded it) on our second night and we were unable to go up to our apartment for almost 3 hours. I'd recommend the apartments if you want to be in a slightly quieter area and want to be near the S. Familia, but next trip to the city I think I will book in the gothic quarter for an area with more character. Overall, good place to base yourself to explore.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment which was great for our family of 6. By European standards the common rooms were roomy, updated and comfortable, no complaints about the apartment itself. Bedrooms on the small side. Location is great-2 blocks from Sagrada Familia and well positioned metro stop. There is also a nice rooftop area however don't be deceived by the pictures of a pool. Yes, there is a pool, but it's knee deep water! Great for toddlers?

However, that's where the praise ends. We arrived direct from New York on a red eye flight bleary and sleep deprived around noon. We were informed by the somewhat surly front desk help that despite our advanced email stating our arrival time, our room would not be available until the check in time-3pm. Fine-check in time is check in time. We took the news in stride and tried to enjoy the sights until 3. When we arrived back at 3:15 we were told by a different staff member that our room was STILL not ready (clearly the maids had JUST started cleaning the room, even though they should have known we'd arrived 3 hours ago). We were told at that time it would be another hour until we could check in. We went food shopping and returned back at 4. At this time we were told our room was STILL! not ready. When we insisted on putting our suitcases in the room we found the maids mid cleaning with toilet paper on the floor of the bathroom and clearly very far from finished cleaning. When we asked to speak to a manager we were told there would be none until next week. When we asked to be compensated for our inconvenience we were told we could have a late check out our last day (which didn't help since we had a flight to catch, this was all they could offer us). Our family has traveled all over the world, extensively in Europe and I have never experienced anything like this, especially from a chain hotel! The front desk was not only unhelpful but rude. Throughout our 3 night stay we heard other guests arguing with various front desk staff, so I imagine this was not an isolated incident. We our not a family that usually complains and our extremely understanding but this was beyond the pale. It should be noted that they did send us a bottle of champagne...2 nights later.

All in all, a good hotel for families looking for apartment style living while on vacation. Beware of unhelpful and rude front desk staff who are prepared to argue with you over even an extra roll of toilet paper!

Pros: Free wi-fi and laundry. Clean facility.
Cons: Supplied only 2 rolls of toilet paper for our 4 bedroom apartment accommodating 10 people to last 4 nights. I was told they only provide supplies for the 1st night. We requested a corkscrew several times and it finally arrived on the 4th night. As we were leaving, housekeeping called and announced that the hair dryer was missing, but there never was a hair dryer sighting during our 4 day stay. I used my credit card to pay in full for the apartment upon arrival, and when I checked my credit card statement the next morning, I noticed 4 unauthorized charges, 3 charges were made in the Sagrada vicinity including a $649 deposit at Medina Hotel in Barcelona and a $1200 Apple computer online purchase. I used the card only once in Barcelona, and the card was still in my position; so I don't know how my card got compromised in less than 12 hours. Luckily, Capital One has a "collect call" number printed on the card. They took care of the fraudelent charges immediately. The brighter side: I did not go over my credit shopping since my plastic was no longer useful.

We stayed for three nights in a duplex apartment. The living room and kitchen are very nice and a great terrace faces a coutyard and magnificent Sagrada Familia in the background.
The master bedroom is also very nice, the biggest criticism are the two smaller rooms: In one room there are two beds and one chair, in the other one only a bed and a fold out bed under the bed that would fill the room completely. There is no space for anything else, nowhere to put clothing, no storage whatsoever. Whilst this might be ok for a couple with young children, for a group of adults it is not!
