“Very good, modern stylish hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013 via mobile

Just away from the busy centre and traffic but close enough to make this a good base. Top service, very good rooms, surprisingly good meals, fast lifts - there is nothing to fault this hotel. Ideal if you near to be a bit closer to the Fira congress centre or airport but within reach of town or escape to the hills. Recommended.

I go to the Melia hotel regularly when I do business trips to Barcelona. It's always a pleasure to stay there! Staff is very service-oriented. Rooms are big, with comfortable beds. Bathroom is really great, with a shower and a bath + a dressing that you can access either from the room or from the bathroom which is really convienent.
Breakfast is very good with a large choice of meals, cereals, fruits, breads etc.
Only drawback: I think the hotel could offer complimentary tea and coffee with kettle in the rooms. It's a minimum service that we usually find in all 4 and 5 stars hotels!
I also tested several times the restaurant of the hotel where you can eat good meals (spanish and international) for good prices. I recommend it aswell.

tI stayed for 5 nights and this hotel is nice some what modern with good options for public transportation. Staff is excellent. It is in front of garden. If you are a person that needs silent rooms ask for one in the back since this hotel is located in a busy street and for that say noisy at night. It takes about 20 minutes to get to Ramblas in the tram and subway since you need to transfer from one to the other even though for the same price. Nice place to stay I will get back soon

Room Tip: Rooms facing to the back street are quiter

Melia Barcelona was the first hotel I stayed during my last trip. And I had no regret at all to stay here. Group check in was smooth and they did have some very helpful staffs. I am sorry I couldn't remember the name of this young and nice gentleman at the front desk (I think it was Marc). I purchased a sim card for my mobile phone at the front desk and he helped me to activate it. I must say, he did a very big favor for me as I didn't know how to do it. And he did it sincerely. Of course beside of him, this hotel also had a very big room (compared to common 4* hotel in Europe), the bathroom was modern and big too. Breakfast variety was also great. Thank you, Melia Barcelona...you gave me a very good opening for my last trip.

We booked this as part of a four-night BA Club Europe package and, at first, it was not up to scratch. We were given a room on the 18th floor which is great if you like views (we could see out to sea) but we prefer to be a little closer to earth. This is was not a major problem of course, but what was a problem was that the room was tiny. It had a double bed in it, just, and very little room for anything else. The wardrobe had only enough space for one person’s clothing, there was nowhere to put our suitcase and all-in-all the room was simply too small for two people, however intimate which each other you plan to be. On the first day we asked if a larger room was available and were told that we could upgrade for a fee. We decided to stick with it. On the second day we ordered room service which was, simply put, awful – €25 for a cold, processed chicken burger served with oil-soggy, limp chips, €20 for a tasteless tuna pizza made with a stale dough base. We didn’t eat in the hotel again. On the third day I went to the spa which was nothing special and rather an odd set-up in that there was just one small, personal changing room (one for men, one for women) together with a single toilet right next to the receptionist – it all felt a little bit weird and uncomfortable and not as relaxed as spas, in my opinion, should be. Following this experience we decided to complain about our room again and this is where things got better. We were upgraded (no mention of a fee this time) to a very nice, spacious room on the 5th floor. The porter who helped us move rooms couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. Once we made the move and learned to avoid the food we had a great time. The room we ended up in was really very nice, comfortable and stylishly decorated.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a big enough room and avoid the room service.

I had a fabulous stay during the holiday season. Our flight arrived in at 7 am and our suite was already ready and we were able to check in early. The concierge and front desk were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The suite was spacious and modern. I highly recommend the breakfast buffet, particularly the omelet station. it was great that it was included within the price of the suite and it saved money in terms of breakfast. The hotel is pretty conveniently located. A hop on/hop off bus tour stop is a couple of blocks away and it's about a 6 euro cab ride from the city center. I've stayed at several hotels in different parts of BCN and for the price, the luxury and the convenience, Hotel Melia is the best. I would definitely stay there again.

The only cons:
1) The room service eating options are not varied and are not tasty given the price.
2) Beware of the shower--it has multiple showerheads-about 7 that shoot out at once. It's great when you get the hang of it, but if it's not turned on properly you'll be shot in the face with a blast of cold water.

Room Tip: Junior Suite is a nice option.

Stayed there for three nights. The hotel is little old but overall it was clean and well maintained. The check-in and check-out experience was fast and easy. The breakfast was good but minimum staff are available at the restaurant. One day we could not find any clean table so we had to clean one table in order to be able to have our breakfast. Overall it is a decent hotel for business travelers.
