“Would absolutely stay again!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

Even though the previous reviews were rather mixed and questionable, I booked this hotel for my husband for two weeks. Since it was very close to the office he had to work at, I decided to give it a try nevertheless. Surprisingly enough it turned out to be the perfect decision. The room was very clean, spacious and absolutely quiet. The employess were nice and helpful. Especially Deborah, whose English was very good, was super friendly and of great help!

Room Tip: Make sure you point out that you are looking for a quiet and nice room.

This hotel was okay for a 1 night stay, more of a business hotel. Bedroom and bathroom was spacious. Reception staff friendly. 5 minute walk to underground which took about 8 mins on a straight line to the Ramblas. This hotel is a bit far out, we were on a coach holiday and would not stay so far out if we had been on our own. Previous comments about this hotel said it was chaos at breakfast, Apparently this was so but they have now done something to rectify this, no problem.

Great stay at this modern hotel in uptown Barcelona. Never more than an 8euro cab ride from all the attractions. We actually walked to Park Guell. Hotel has an in site restaurant which was good enough. Coffee was great. Roof top pool was fantastic. Rooms are spacious and clean. Service was excellent and very friendly. Everyone spoke excellent English as well. Price wise, this place was a great value. 300 euros less than all others aces we looked at for a week long stay. Beds were a touch too hard. Pillows too flat.

Room Tip: Pool is on the fourth floor.

My family and I were on a tour provided by Cosmo of Spain and France. One of our stops was 3 nights in Barcelona with this hotel. This hotel was terrible. It had horrible amenities; our sink wouldn't drain properly, our mini fridge was broken and would not cool our drinks (one of our bottles even had mold on it), housekeeping did not replenish our soaps and shampoos, and the air conditioning was not cooling our room. Although it was an inconvenience, these things are pardonable. You are never going to be 100% comfortable in any hotel because the best hotel is your own home. My family and I do not like to complain because we came on this tour to have a great time, not complain over subtle things. One thing we do not tolerate is any form of disrespect from any member of the hotel staff. I am absolutely disgusted with a receptionist named Carla. She was the rudest receptionist I have ever encountered on my many trips around the world. It is because of her that this hotel is receiving a terrible rating and feedback. It is because of Carla that I would not return to Hotel Catalonia and would not recommend this hotel to my family and friends that travel to Barcelona. My family and I did not spend thousands upon thousands of dollars to be disrespected by anyone on our tour; it is utterly unacceptable to be disrespected by any hotel staff because we paid a lot of money for their services, not to sleep at their hotel. Anyone could sleep anywhere, but one paid for a hotel to be treated nicely and respectfully. I did complain to my tour director and received a written apology from Carla, but she completely ruined our 3 nights in Barcelona. I hope this would be a learning lesson to Carla to never disrespect any guest at your hotel because it could have dire consequences. This hotel is equivalent to a mirror with a huge crack in it. What do you do with a broken mirror? You replace it with a new one.

I stayed in this hotel for two nights with a Cosmo's tour. The room was spacious and clean. There is no view, however. There is a resonably priced minibar in the room with a good selection of items. Breakfast was nice with a good variety of items. There is a Japanese restaurant in the hotel that also offers room service (but I did not eat there).
The location is in a nice area with a grocery store down the street. There is a nice wine store across the street as well. The metro is within walking distanct to the main shopping area of Barcelona.
The hotel has a small pool but not built for swimming laps.
Free WiFi with password that is provided at the desk on little cards.
There is an in room safe, but you have to leave a 50euro deposit at the desk to get the key for the safe. And keep the slip they give you so you can get your deposit back. I couldn't find mine and was given a little bit of an attitude but was refunded my deposit.
Desk staff is a little stiff and unfriendly.
Other than that small glitch, it's a very nice hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get away from the elevators - noisy when people get off and housekeeping used the same elevat...

The hotel was a bit tricky to find as it's up the hill of many streets that look the same - difficult to find at night. It is close to a subway station which is handy. The hotel rooms are average size. The bathroom was average size. Nothing to special about the place - clean, and average location. Was staying there as part of an organized tour so cannot comment on the price.

The hotel was on the mountain side of Barcelona and was a treck into the city everyday. The rooms on the lobby floor had little or no air conditioning and were not remodeled. Only 2 of our rooms were able to change to a higher, cooler and very updated room. All but one of the staff at the front desk desk was very accommodating. The girl that came in for the morning shift was very curt and not very helpful.
