4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2011

We have just had a long weekend in Barcelona. We had a great time and were very pleased with the standard of this hotel. Fab location near shops bars and restaurants. The building has some beautiful original features and the sun deck with small pool was a real bonus when the shopping was done. Modern rooms with decent bathroom. Will definitely return to this hotel and have recommended it to others. We skipped breakfast after the first day and chose to eat in the small cafes with the locals.

As the title suggests this hotel is in a fantastic location. You are only a minute away from Placa de Catalunya. From here you can catch all the main tourist buses or if you prefer to do it on your own catch a train from Catalunya metro station from which you can get to most of the sites. You are on a main shopping street and a block away from Las Ramblas. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes in the area too.

Breakfast wasnt included in the price and we didnt eat at the restuarant in the hotel so I cant comment on the food. We ate breakfast at Cafe Zurich just down the road most mornings where you can get a coffee and a crossaint or a breakfast baguette for a pretty reasonable price and sit in the sun and watch the people go by at the same time.

There were tea and coffee facilities in our room but no milk. Not a big deal but worth noting. They offer free wifi but the details in our room were wrong so if you have trouble connecting call up reception and they will give you the correct details to login.

The only downside was that it could be a little noisy in the mornings if your a light sleeper. There was no problem with noise from other rooms but you seemed to be able to hear everything out in the corridors. It is an old building so its to be expected. The rooms have all been done up and decorated nicely.

I would stay here again.

What a wonderful surprise we had when we arrived at the beautiful hotel right in the middle of Barcelona. Situated close to the airport, taxi fare circa €20.00, this hotel was a relevation. Its splendid decor with spacious rooms set in a 19th century gothic style building is eye catching and you feel the history. The staff were top class and the food was excellent. They have a wonderful menu at very reasonable prices with a flavour of the local cuisine served in a sspacious and comfortable setting. The manager Joacim and his staff could not have been more helpful and all you have to do is ask and you will not be dissapointed. The hotel is good value and you are close to the centre of all the activities and the tour busses is only 100 metres away. I would reccomend this hotel to any discerning traveller and you will not be dissapointed

we spent most of our time in other parts of the country and had very little time to see parts of barc. But the staff, Oscar Bujosa, spent time with us and showed us key sites to see near by. He even gave us a great dinner recommendation. THanks to him for his courtesy and service we were able to see alot of great barce.
we recommend this hotel to our friend.

Ideal location - very close to Placa Catalunya so ideal to get to using the Aerobus from the airport (€8.50 return, great value) but also quieter location than La Rambla. Our room was tastefully decorated, the staff - especially the man in the afternoons - were really friendly and so helpful, the decor is really impressive with a beautiful tiled staircase and lovely products the bathroom! I would certainly recommend this hotel. However, we booked a superior room through Late Rooms and felt that our room was not what you would call 'superior' so I would probably book standard another time. Our window looked out onto a blank yellow wall - we were offered a room with a terrace but at an extra cost of €20 per night and we just felt that, given the overall cost of the hotel anyway, it was too much. Also breakfast wasn't included and again we felt €16 each was too dear so we bought lots of lovely fresh fruit and pastries from the market - much cheaper!

We chose this hotel purely because of positive comments on Trip Advisor. Now we know why: this hotel is really terrific.

It is located on a busy pedestrian-only street and taxis let you off about a block from the hotel – in the Placa de Catalonia – which is also where the airport bus leaves you. (If you have lots of luggage we suggest you call ahead and make arrangements for them to help you with your bags. If your arrive or leave early in the morning a taxi can come to the door.)

We booked a Premium Double with Terrace room because we wanted some outdoor space with our room for our 5 night stay – we like to “picnic” when we travel and knew a terrace and chairs and table were important to us. We used the terrace for breakfasts and some dinners. The courtyard was quiet and very pleasant. (The outdoor pool was not in use when we were there but closes at 8:00pm so it wouldn't be noisy at night when its open.)

The room was comfortable and well appointed -- not huge but adequate for two people. It faced the back of the building overlooking the lovely courtyard. You felt as if you were in the quiet countryside rather than the middle of the bustling Barri Gothic section of Barcelona. Yet when you walked out the front door of the hotel you were just steps from the Cathedral, Palau de Musica and El Corte Ingles – the big department store that has a houses a huge supermarket. (We never checked out other rooms but other reviews indicated that street facing rooms were quiet when windows were closed. and some of the hotel’s rooms face inner courtyards.)

The staff was courteous and considerate. They spoke English well – and were extremely helpful in giving directions and suggestions. We liked everyone we met -- Miguel and Oscar were particularly helpful to us when we asked for assistance. Even the maids were friendly and the room was very clean – and made up quickly and efficiently when we left in the mornings.

We loved that wi-fi was free…and the connection was fast and reliable. (We have previously stayed in hotels that charged up to $20 per hour of internet connection.)

We did not try the hotel breakfast – we either used the coffee/tea service provided for breakfast or ate at one of the many nearby cafes.

This is really a lovely hotel. We would certainly go back there if we return to Barcelona.

Location: on the central pedestrian street 3 min walk from Placa de Catalunya (where Aerobuses stop, and which is the central point of the city) and from the cathedral (which is the centre of the Gothic Quarter). Actually we walked almost everywhere. The district is absolutely safe, even when we were returning from a concert almost at midnight we did not encounter any antisocial elements. We had a standard double room. It was spacious enough, with a nice entrance hall and a spacious bathroom. The balcony looked on the street, but the room was absolutely quiet. And very clean. There was also free WiFi with a very good signal. For breakfast there was a rich choice of everything: cereals, cheeses, jamón, salami, boiled and fried eggs, fried bacon, pastries, fruit. Coffee was served in a pot, but if asked, they brought espresso from the bar. Breakfast was served in a marquee with palms and greenery all around.
