“beautiful hotel, great value for the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

comfy beds, beautiful bathrooms, and only a block from a major street that includes the Gaudi apartment and several restaurants and shops. As a bonus, there was a very decent gym that is almost impossible to find in centrally located cities in Europe. The concierge service was especially attentive; there was a very nice bar/meeting room in the lobby.

Spent two nights after disembarking from a cruise. Hotel is just a few blocks from Plaza de Catalunya, the city's central district. Shops and restaurants line the intersecting avenues. Desk staff is very professional and accommodating. We were lucky to be assigned a room on the 8th floor with a private terrace. The hotel's terrace bar that overlooks the main entrance is a great place to have a drink while taking in the city views. The buffet breakfast rivals the buffet from the cruise ship. Room was a bit small, but the bathroom is huge. All furnishings are modern and well-suited. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 801 has the private terrace.

We stayed in July for three nights and enjoyed the hotel. The room was on the large size by European standards and clean. The hotel staff was pleasant, but the front desk should be a bit larger - it tends to get crowded. The gym was fantastic - much better than many others at higher end hotels.
The location is superb, a quiet street that is 4 or 5 blocks from the Rambla, and we walked everywhere in Barcelona(except Guell park - take a cab there). Not too many US stations on the TV - not too much of a complaint as we didn't get back to our rooms until night, but I'd recommend a few more.
Overall, I'd recommend this hotel above just about any other hotel in it's price range, and even in the next range. We walked by a lot of hotels in Barcelona that didn't come close to the Renaissance - say here

Centrally located, this hotel's service was terrific... and started before we arrived. They arranged for an airport pickup by an English speaking driver (virtually everyone on staff who interacted with customers was multilingual). The extensive buffet breakfast, which was included, was free because of our Marriott Rewards membership. The quality & selection of the buffet was much better than we're used to at Marriott properties in the USA. The rooms were on the large size for European hotel rooms (at least in our experience), the bed was very comfortable, and the bathrooms were excellent and included bidets. The gym was reasonably sized, well equipped, and provided complimentary water bottles and clean towels. And finally, there's a terrace on the roof with a bar, couches, chairs, etc, Staff were amazingly helpful with everything from what to see through where to eat. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Oh... and the price was quite reasonable given the quality of the property.

I have stayed at many Renaissance hotels and this one was on par with all of them. Excellent room, good air quality, good food at the bar, and great service. I would stay here again on my next trip to Barcelona. As a Marriott member I was able to use points for free nights. The hotel also contacted me frequently about my reservation. Also, even though we arrived early, we were able to get into the room immediately. Good location and excellent breakfast - not your typical european meats and bread but lots of fruit and other goodies.

We stayed here for 3 evenings. It is located near the Rambla, shopping and the major attractions. We have one complaint: the room service staff seems to forget to give us face towels, shampoo, conditioner everyday and I have to call them to deliver these to us. Other than that, the staff is friendly. Good buffet breakfast.

The staff were incredibly friendly here, and both before and after the cruise we got a beautiful view of La Sagrada Familia and the Agbar tower. It's a short walk to Las Ramblas, and there's a convenience store with delicious samosas (just up Carrer del Consell de Cent I believe.)

The only "complaint" I would have is how the shower/tub is set up. There isn't a curtain, and the glass "door" only covers half the shower. Maybe I'm just showering wrong for Europe though; since I can't really ask to see how Europeans shower I guess I'll never know.

Be forewarned, the train/metro stop closest to the hotel only serves as an exit; you can't actually get into the train station unless you cross the street.

Room Tip: Try to get a city view
