“Good out of city centre hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Staff friendly and helpful. Roon clean and functional. Would have liked tea/coffee making facilities.
Metro station nearby with easy links to all parts of the city..
Only complaint is the lack of useable WiFi. Only available in the lobby area and as an advertised business hotel I found this frustrating in this day and age.

But having said that would definately stay there again. Good value and location.

I liked the hotel very much. Don't pay much attention on the distance from the center to the hotel. Its not as far as it may seem to be. The metro station is 2 mints.walk, and 10 mints to La Rambla. To and From Airport you can get by taxi (40 Euros). In the hotel they may help to call the taxi. Its pretty calm hotel with a nice stuff.

we were a little worried as booking via wowcher deal we were expecting as advertised a city centre hotel and the Alimara is probably the furthest hotel away however a clean smart hotel with very friendly and helpful staff, who put us in a room away from the bus road when we asked, and could not be more helpful. Room clean and well maintained. Metro was just behind the hotel trains ran every 3-4 minutes. Quiet safe neighbourhood and we would recommend to budget conscious friends

I think the moaning about lack of wifi, English tv channels, no duvets and no coffee machines are justified but not sure these are things always provided in Spanish hotels and perhaps we had such a great holiday we didn't care

The hotel is in a smart suburb on the outskirts of the city, close to a busy (and noisy) motorway. There is a Metro station about five minutes’ walk away, giving easy access to the downtown area in about 20 mins. The hotel has limited undercover parking (€15 per night).
We had a ‘superior’ room which was adequately large and appropriately furnished. The windows open, but this advantage was negated by the noise. There was a huge private terrace accessible through one of the windows, although this contained no furniture on which to lounge or sit, and could be quite dangerous for children who might be tempted to test their ‘batman’ skills from the parapet.
Astonishingly, there is no way of turning off the bedroom air-conditioning, nor did the temperature selector in our room have any noticeable effect on the system’s output. If you cannot stand the gale, you could open a window. This shuts down the aircon but lets in the traffic noise. Apparently the aircon system is old and could present a health issue unless it runs constantly. This is a problem the hotel needs to fix.
The room safe needs some working out. Top Tip: you must insert SIX numbers, NOT the four shown on the instruction card.
Unfortunately, the hotel suffers from ‘design-mania’: it is the product of the fevered mind of some young, intense, gleaming-eyed youth who has never actually had to live in anything he created. (The writer here is a man, but he admits that it is highly unlikely that a woman could be so absolutely heedless of the functionality of the pretty pictures she creates on her design board). Thus things are nice to look at but they just don’t work well. The shallow wash basin in the bathroom is equipped with a nifty plug, the operation of which is obscure. We tried pressing it: it stuck fast in the closed position and we were left with a bowlful of dirty water staring balefully at us. There was no urgency in getting it fixed, despite repeated requests.
There MAY be a way of adjusting the height of the shower head, but I haven’t done the course. In line with all similar hotels, where the shower screen is cute but inadequate, much of the water ends up on the floor. No real problem in our case: you couldn’t really see it, as one of the bathroom lights didn’t work.
However, FULL MARKS for comfortable beds equipped with blankets. Yes, blankets! Not those horrible heavy duvets now found almost everywhere else.
And now that I’ve cheered up, I should mention that the staff are very friendly and speak excellent English (not always the case in Spain).
The dining room, alas, brings on another grump. For a 4-star hotel, the ambience is rather ‘company cafeteria’. It’s quite noisy if you have a group of loud Americans competing with a similar group of exuberant Spaniards, and Top Tip: don’t sit near the entrance door. Unlike most restaurants in Europe, this does not have a double entry. Thus every time a new customer arrives, a gust of cold air swirls around you. I’m vegetarian (which I think may be illegal in Spain) and inevitably there was no vegetarian choice of main dish. However, a salad and my wife’s choice of chicken yakatori was attractively served and good. The prices were reasonable for a hotel dining room. (Note for veggies visiting Spain for the first time: lay on the blubber before you arrive. Usually the most you can hope for, apart from Spanish omelette, is a variety of salads and you’ll be lucky if those aren’t strewn with bits of ham). Breakfast (€13 if ordered the night before; €15 on the day) was good and the croissants excellent if a little oily.
One final gripe: this is a ‘4-star’, business-oriented hotel. WiFi SHOULD be included in the bedroom rate, not charged at an additional €6 per day. The connection is free in the lobby, but it’s very slow and for some reason my Outlook email wouldn’t load through the hotel’s server.
‘Could do better’ seems to sum up the Alimara experience.

Room Tip: A room facing away from the motorway would allow you to open a window (see remarks re uncontrollable...

This is a nice hotel while in Barcelona. It is a th e north of the city center but you can easily reach it by metro which is really nearby.
The whole building is very modern and the rooms quite comfy. Beds unfortunately have not the bets matresses but for a few days is o.k. Most of the rooms have a nice view to Tibidabo hill!
Breakfast is very good,too.

Clean room, good staff, very big bathroom. They have a gym area, too.
Hotel is very close from metro. No free parking, but you can find a place in front of it or behind....

I like it!

The hotel was very close to the metro which was just around the corner. We were a bit confused by the types of metro ticket and zones. However Barcelona is all one zone so if you buy a T10 ticket this does 10 journeys which you can share with others. Cost euro10.30
The wifi in the hotel isn't great but ok if you just want to use now and again.
There is a lovely seating area outside at the bar. We only ate breakfast there once, it was a bit expensive at euro15. There is a cafe across the road within the neighbourhood complex. Not sure if there is anything round about we just used hotel as a base and took metro into the center every day
