Owner description: This fascinating area is steeped in history, with city hall located in the same spot where kings once reigned. You'll find narrow streets and squares here, with Gothic mansions, museums, historic churches, bars and restaurants. The Placa del Rei is reputedly the place where King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella welcomed Columbus after his voyage to America.

“Love the Old City!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

We had such a good evening in Old City. We went on a Sunday night and there was a really good vibe, lots of people (although a few restaurants are closed Sunday and Monday) and the weather was perfect (although I'd advise taking a light jacket).

We decided to go and eat around 11pm in one of the courtyard areas and had a great time. The food was lovely and the old buildings provide a beautiful backdrop to your meal.
It was great walking around the little streets and exploring all the hidden places dotted in and out of the area.

There were performers - an accordion player and a fire dancer - which I don't know whether that happens regularly (though I imagine it does seeing as it's a bit of a tourist area) but certainly were enjoyable.

Would definitely recommend a casual, leisurely evening in the Old City area.

“Stumbled Across The Red Light Area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

Wandered off of Las Ramblas to have a look at things other than tourist stuff. The Old city started off really quirky with cool little bars however it wasn't long till we ended up in a run down part of the area. It was the afternoon and we saw many lady workers around. This particular part of the area was shady... just so you know!

A lovely place to window shop in the small streets not knowing what will be around the corner. Fantastic selection of unique products to take home as gifts

Really nice little part of Barcelona with lots of narrow alley ways filled with interesting shops, cafes, eateries etc. Also close by to a few attractions.

“Fascinating architecture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

Strolling round and looking at the houses and also see the street life is really joyful - all small shops and local bars and small restaurants.
