“Great hotel & location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

Nice modern rooms in a Beautifully renovated building. Great bathroom and bed. We had a balcony on the street which was a little noisy, but they did offer us another room if we wanted to move. Great bar downstairs unfortunately the roof top bar is open during hotter months even though the weather was in 27 deg during October. We stayed 6 nights. Only negatives would be air cond was not always working well and our room key had to be re programmed every day. Good value hotel.

Room Tip: The deluxe room is worth the upgrade

We stayed at Hotel Espana on the final leg of our honeymoon and we had a wonderful experience. The hotel is beautifully designed and we appreciated the small creative details that seemed to be all around us. Our room was clean and comfortable. We had a small issue with the air conditioning but it was quickly addressed. The hotel staff was very helpful and courteous. We also had dinner in the hotel restaurant which was excellent.

The only gripe I have was that the lighting in the bathroom was not the best for getting ready, but this small observation in no way effected our experience at the hotel.

We look forward to staying at this hotel again (hopefully soon) on our next visit to Barcelona!

What a wonderful hotel, full of character and charm. I just love the dining room where breakfast was served daily and it was good food. Love the rooftop terrace for snacks and music in the evenings, a great place to relax. I was at the Hotel Espana for 4 nights in July and enjoyed every minute of it. Great location, you can walk everywhere to fantastic restaurants, shops, sightseeing etc. I will be back the next time I am in Barcelona but will ask for a bigger room if possible. Staff was just amazing so helpful all the way.

Room Tip: Ask for room with larger windows.

We booked a deluxe one bedroom at this hotel for 3 nights. It is in a great location to either walk to a lot of the major attractions or to easy transportation to them. Very modern hotel but keeps some of the old world ambience in the lobby and staircase. Only thing we didn't like was the king size bed we requested was 2 singles pushed together (with separate bedding) so we basically had 2 single beds. Room/bathroom was spacious and we had a small balcony overlooking the front street. Felt quite safe even though one of our cab drivers had his cell phone stolen while he was loading luggage (had his window down). Just need to exercise caution as everyone warns you to be on the lookout for thieves. Would definitely book this hotel when I return to Barcelona as 3 days was not enough.

We stayed two nights at this hotel. It is located on a side street from La Rambla. Close enough to the main thoroughfare yet far enough not to hear all the street traffic. You are less than a block from the Liceu Train Stop. The most modern hotel I have ever stayed in. Even the hotels own photos do not do it justice. This is the only hotel I know of that has it's own tours of the hotel. If I return to Barcelona I would absolutely stay here again

We spend a few nights in there, and it's lovely. The hotel is really beautiful; so beautiful it's sometimes visited by outsiders.

The service is great, people are all nice and helpful. Breakfast proposes a lot of diversity and is good. The bar is nice, and the restaurant is really worth a diner.

The hotel is placed in a small street near la Rambla, and is really quiet.

Stayed two nights pre-cruise. I would recommend this pre cruise itinerary if you've never been to Barcelona before. Hotel staff are very nice and attentive. The rooms are tiny but the bathroom is very large. Decor is dark and modern. I would recommend this hotel for solo travel, very safe location. Steps from Liceu Metro station and Ramblas. Walking distance to many attractions and the old district. Tons of food choices. Close to the La Boqueria market. Quiet location. There is a bakery across the street from St. Augustine church that serves wonderful baked goods and coffee. Just be careful when walking to the bakery as there must be a free food line at the church on certain days that attacts a lot of different kinds of people. I would not walk in the other direction of the hotel (away from Ramblas or towards bakery) alone. Rooms were fairly expensive but worth it for the location.
