“Hotel Espana -The hidden jewel just off La Rambla”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

The hotel is just a block away from La Rambla, very close to the Opera House and other attractions. The shops behind the Cathedral just opposite the road are the best value for money in Barcelona.

The staff were professional and very helpful at all times. They kept our luggage for us for free for one evening to give us the freedom to visit Montserrat without hassles.

All the amenities are carefully planned and the layout of each space is pleasing to the eye. The terrace is a oasis to run to after a busy day on the feet out in the sun. The foyer, with the centre piece an Alabasta sculpture. with the fireplace inside is also breath taking.

We changed our plans and stayed for a couple of days again after our Boat Cruise, because the teenagers in the family wanted to. It was really one of the best experiences we had with regards to accommodation overseas.

Room Tip: Choose room away from streets.

We booked this due to a recommendation from a friend. The location is great, its just off La Ramblas so a good base for exploring the city. True, further down the road is a little dodge at night, but the hotel is closer to La Ramblas so no issues there. The room we booked was the one with a balcony, but it was very small, however the room was larger than a standard room. The mini bar - great its included, but it was pretty disappointing in the meagre amount left - a couple of bottles of water, some peanuts and a pack of crisps.

The hotel is decorated really well and the staff are friendly. We chose not to have breakfast there, and instead enjoyed different places for brunch which was much nicer. The market is so close and there is a great choice of juices and snacks there. The roof terrace has a nice vibe, the pool is tiny, but the sun loungers were always packed.

Just fifty yards from the hustle and bustle of Las Ramblas in the heart of Barcelona this hotel is a real gem. From the moment you walk into reception you see the elements of the design from the internal courtyard to the Gaudi fireplace. A truly amazing find. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Giving advice on where to go and what to see, also how to get there. The rooms are clean and modern. Giving a quiet retreat for a siesta. The roof top bar and pool are an oasis. after a long days sightseeing and a must for couples. This is a must stay hotel

“We booked this hotel for 10% off regular rates; non-refundable payment in advance. Good value for the price had the restaurants been open. Centrally located off Las Ramblas, near the Boqueria market and metro. Staff service was exceptional, room large and well-appointed and quiet (took Trip Advisor recommendation and asked for upper room). Excellent staff recommendations for places to eat, etc. , though many restaurants closed in August. Promotional materials touted its excellent restaurant, La Fonda, but we were not warned it would be closed in mid-August for vacation when we were there. (The welcome materials they sent us in advance even included a link to the restaurant reservations with a promotional coupon.) Also were not warned that the other restaurant, Sirenes, was closed for renovation. Rooftop and lobby bars were all that were available and food was inadequate. Would consider staying there again, though likely to shop around.”

The hotel is modern beautifully finished and comfortable, located in the busy Ramblas area but on a side street so not too close! Staff were friendly and helpful, service was perfect. Roof top terrace bar was quirky and wonderful in the evening for the breeze! Jacuzzi and small pool available. Room was on the 4th floor at rear of hotel. It was comfortable and well maintained with excellent air conditioning. Bathroom was clean, large shower cubicle was nice. No problems with noise at night, bed was comfortable. Mini bar was replenished daily. Would recommend and would certainly stay in the hotel again. Really enjoyable experience.

Hotel is in good location just off Las Ramblas, where the crowds are unbelievable. Just a short stroll to the markets which we visited every day. Beautifully renovated in contemporary style whist preserving its heritage. Very clean and neat with helpful staff, especially when we had to change rooms when AC broke down. Nice roof top bar and small pool. It was our 1st time in BCN but next time we'd stay in the Barri Gotic quarter, which has a great vibe with many cool alleys, shops and bars etc..
