Me and my husband Hans weren't really expecting that this place would be very bad, but we didn't expect it being this good! Cute staff, very friendly and helpful.

The hotel itself is lovely. Old and beautiful building with modernised rooms. The location is great, and ideal. Just 150m down a street right off the middle of La Rambla. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They do their best to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable. I was grateful for that esp. since my wife wasnt well. The stay itself is enjoyable and pleasant. I was happy we stayed there but I won't stay there again. I would still recommend that you stay there and make up your own mind.

A few frustrations :
Phone system wouldn't work and could never get an outside call. Despite several attempts by the hotel staff.
The TV system needs a small degree to figure out . And there are only a couple news channels in English.
The breakfast was very poor value for money, quite bare and only till 10.30 inc weekends and was very mercenary in that everything is cleared away at exactly 10.30 regardless if you're finised or not. If you want cooked eggs, it's extra 3€ !!!!
Bathroom amenities only enough for one person and no thought given that more should be places for two people. So each day we had to ask for extra amenities.
Wifi passes were a pain to get and use.

If the location and ambience wasn't so great along with the helpfulness of the staff I would put it as average all round but the hotel does have so positive aspects .

Stayed at the Hotel Espanya in September 2012 for our honeymoon for 4 days (in between travels). Hotel was very nice and off the main strip of La Rambla. I loved that the subway stop was a few feet away from our hotel. The staff were pleasant and nice and the Hotel was very modern and beautiful. The first room they placed us in was very tiny and smelt like a swimming pool . Since we had 2 big luggages the room was not going to do for us since there would be no room to move around. We mentioned this to the bell boy and he went the extra mile for us and put my husband and I in a nicer room that was more cozy and roomy for the 2 of us (always remember you are in Europe and the rooms are not going to be very big to begin with). The rooftop pool was very small as well but made due for sun lounging and a quick dip. The bar staff at night on the rooftop were very nice and spoke decent English. The lobby staff were very helpful and provided a map of the area and recommended things to do. The restaurants in the area were way over priced and the food was ok. I would recommend dining else where. Overall, great experience, great location and beautiful hotel.

Really nice hotel,even though the street it's on looks quite shabby, very luxurious and comfortable rooms. Amazing showers, like showering in the rainforest! Rooftop bar was nice in the evenings but the pool was very small (hardly a pool really) and the hot tub was cold. But it was nice for sunbathing and we spent most of our time in the city anyway. Staff were very helpful and could recommend and book restaurants for us. Internet was free and easy to use.

Location was fantastic, right in the middle of Las Ramblas and close to La Bouqueria market which is amazing. Would stay here again and recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the area.
