“Great location”

Hostal Fernando

Aug 16, 2007

I stayed here in March 07 and had a single room in the pension part of the hostel. The building is just off la Ramblas and very comfortable and clean. I found the location great, but as my room overlooked a street in the old town, the noise did echo, so I'd recommend earplugs for a quiet stay - Barcelona really doesn't sleep. Reception staff were helpful and pleasant but not outgoing or chatty.
There are plenty of cafes and shops on the street itself and, of course, on La Ramblas. There's also a supermarket in the basement of El Corte Ingles which has a good selection of fresh food.

We stayed in a private triple room which was fine until someone with a key came into our room while we were out having dinner one night...they stole my sister's Ipod. The person who was orginally on duty (Hamid) was extremely defensive re the whole situation and both bloke on the desk seemd fairly unphased by the whole inccident which was rather off putting. Needless to say we packed our bags and checked out in search of another hotel in the early hours of the morning and I would not recommend staying here to anyone.

Our family of 5 stayed in this hostal for 3 nights. ideally located at the center, with very close proximity to most of the attractions. Few steps away to the next metro station. The rooms were small but nevertheless clean and quite modern. Linens were changed everyday and the room made up everyday. The staff were not as friendly but they were very helpful. I would recommended this hostal for budget family travellers like us.

We booked thru hostelsclub, and specifically asked for a room with a double bed (not twin bed). Of course, when we arrived they had missed it. They solved the problem, but we ended up having to move from one room to another between day one of two. So, if you book this (and other) hostel thru hostelsclub, you might want to contact them a couple of days in advance to make sure you get what you asked for in the first place.

Apart from that, friendly staff, nice location just off ramblas on the gothic side. But bring earplugs! You will hear noise from the streets at night, I understood that most rooms are facing C/ferran or the small alleys just off c/ferran.

Enjoy barcelona!

I slept in a dormitory with other 5 people. The staying was allright, simple room but it was not that clean and there were slamming doors all night long and people talking lound in the corridor, I think the walls are quite thin. At the end of my staying I discovered they had no record of me paying and made some trouble with my credit card. Not very smily reception.
Perhaps single rooms are better anyway.
