“Good hotel, fine location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Located in a historic building the hotel offers spacious rooms at great value. It's a decent 4 star hotel with friendly and helpful staff (early check in, printing services, ironing etc... no problem whatsoever during my stay). With a 10 min walk to the Ramblas and all needed facilities at hand the location is good!

This hotel was an excellent location for sightseeing and getting around to the sights. Found the staff to be very friendly and helpful both upon arrival and throughout our stay. Only complaint was the breakfast buffet, which was very overpriced for the quality and selection of food. You are much better off going to any of the cafes within walking distance for breakfast. Was very pleased with the cleanliness of the room.

Room Tip: Pay the extra money for a room with a balcony.

Very convenient location with a supermarket just the next block. Close to the shopping area "passage de glacia" and Casa Batllo. Room was very spacious, clean and nicely decorated. Front desk was helpful and responsive. Free wifi was provided.

Will surely recommend this hotel to my friend travelling to Barcelona.

Agree with others about the location - within 10-15 mins walk are Placa Catalunya, Las Ramblas, top end of the Gothic Quarter, Casa Batllo and La Pedrera and Sagrada Familia - its only about 25mins to Placa Reial and the port end of Las Ramblas - so its easy to get to a lot of the tourist things most of us want to see. Nearest Metro is just around the corner - 300m and about 4 others within 5 mins walk.

We had a 'club' room on 5th floor and I would recommend this if you can get a deal as we did. Free coffee and pastries at any time was worth it and did us for breakfast too. Room was pretty standard but bed was huge and comfy. Everything was very clean. Good sleep - no hotel noise but a bit from traffic one morning - that said you want to be up and about anyway. Rooftop pool area smallish but a godsend as others have said. Nice to relax up there and have a beer before going out in the evening. Hotel staff were all very helpful and friendly.

There are plenty of bars and cafes within 5-10 mins to get food and drink.

We were also there on 11th Sept which is the Catalunya national day ( and this year a massive demonstration) - though have to say I quite enjoyed all the noise, flag waving and activity ( it stayed peaceful) but I can see how some might not. You could not avoid it if you were anywhere around central Barcelona that afternoon / evening - so if it will worry you avoid 11th Sept for your trip.

I'm happy to recommend this hotel - we had a good stay here and had a lovely time in Barcelona.

Room Tip: Get a 'Club' room if you can afford or get a deal.

This hotel is very well located and central. We decided to go to this hotel because we had friends that had already stayed there. The lobby is very big and the staff attended to us very well when we got to the hotel. This is one of the things i would highlight from this hotel, the service. Spacious rooms and well decorated. Easy walking distance to the central atractions and makes sightseeing an easy walking task. Good restaurants around the area.

Loved our stay here, the bed was very comfortable. The room was great. Very clean and well laid out. Our only complaint was that we were never able to get the adapter to work for our electronics. Having said that, the front desk staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The location was perfect for taking in the sites and we easily walked to most of them. After a busy day of sightseeing the rooftop pool was a nice place to relax and unwind. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The Gran Havana is conveniently located, the rooms are quite large and well equipped and the staff (in particular the doorman) are extremely helpful.
But the advertsied "Free WiFi" won't let you download email with Thunderbird or other email servers - you have to do that through web browsers - if you want fast internet to get your email to work you have to pay another Eur6.60 per day (or mention the fact that others have complained on Trip Advisor and you intend to - then it is quickly gratis sir).
The other little problem is that on two of our three days the rooftop pool (which is quite small) closed between 17:30 and 21:30 - just when we returned hot and weary from sightseeing and needed a dip.
Breakfast is available for Eur14,00 but at a dozen places within one hundred metres you can get it for half that price.
