“Great location, felt a little dated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2013

The location of this hotel couldn't be better. Metro is across the street or around the corner. Buses also around the corner. The rooms were large. The beds however looked more like hammocks they were so sunken in the middle. The bathroom was very large and clean. It was hard to control the room temperature. Our room was extremely hot. The breakfast buffet was nice, good choices. Front desk and restaurant staff were ok, nothing exceptional. The hotel is near Placa de Catalunya with a very large store (el conte ingles) in that plaza, groceries on the lower level. Many restaurants nearby but I would suggest venturing further out to experience more authentic cuisine. La Rambla is around the corner but again, very crowded with tourists - other better places to spend time in Barcelona.

I've spent 3 nights during a business trip here and cannot say anything bad about it. Location is ok, rooms average, clean and minibar full. Breakfasts were very good, but I have not seen the restaurant in the evenings. Staff was helpful, just a little bit slow when working under stress during registration.

Stayed one night at this hotel after a cruise, they allowed us to check in early in the morning which we did not expect. The hotel was close to shopping and all attractions. You could walk to everything. The staff were excellent and very accommodating. We would recommend this hotel to every one whether for one night or for a longer stay.

If you like to wallow in nostalgic but modern luxury this is the hotel to stay in Barcelona. Centrally placed within a short walk of Place de la Catalunya and most of the sights including the incredible Gaudi attractions . This is a traditional hotel, sumptuously appointed with lots of brass and mahogany. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and nicely furnished. I have stayed there on several occasions and cannot fault it. However, if I have one very minor criticism, I think the reception staff can be a little standoffish but not necessarily unfriendly. I think this is often found in the 'posh' end of the market. The public areas are comfortable for relaxing in and the cuisine is excellent. Don't expect any discounts here. It is not cheap but you get what you pay for and this case they don't come much better.
Must see the Gaudi sites and the best way is via the northern route hop on/off open top buses which are frequent and good value. Get the frequent coastal trains underneath the Place de la Catalunya and go to the Costa Brava resorts for the day - not far and not expensive. Or example south to Sitges about half an hour and a few pounds each way.

After traveling over two weeks in Portugal and Spain, we arrived in Barcelona on the last leg of our trip, tired and ready slow our pace with several days in Barcelona. What a special surprise to have the best hotel of our whole trip awaiting us with the absolutely nicest, most helpful, friendliest staff. Marat and Elisenda are at the very top of the list. Any hotel would be lucky and proud to have these two remarkable people working for them. Their smiles, recommendations, hints, interest, and help were much appreciated and made us love Barcelona and the Avenida Palace.
From the minute we arrived, they were both there to make our stay special. Avenida Palace was indeed a palace for us - from the beautiful lobby, delicious breakfast, spacious room, and location.

We booked this hotel for two nights prior to a cruise,
We loved the charm and feeling of the hotel. A well preserved gem.
The hotel is very well maintained and beautiful.
Our room was very charming and comfortable, the bathroom very spacious and spotless.
The location of this hotel is absolutely superb,
walking distance to everything, beautiful avenues, shops,
restaurants, Gaudi's houses. The square for the tour buses two blocks from the hotel.
The breakfast is wonderful a good variety of food to choose from.
We found the management and staff of the hotel very efficient and
accommodating a wonderful group of very nice people ready to take care of you and make your stay with them a pleasure.
Definitely we recommend this hotel without hesitation.

We have just checked out of the hotel and had an amazing stay there. Perfect location, very friendly staff, clean and very comfortable rooms. It is a bit old but it is adding a nice feel to the ambiance.
For the location I can not compare to any other hotel with a better place.
