“Disappointed and I got robbed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

Well it was during our honeymoon trip in Spain and France, we were excited to visit Barcelona and our Agency booked us Avenida Palace;

I will share my own experience:

- 1st of all our Room wasn't ready until 16h00 (the check in should be at 14h)
- The Receptionists can't smile even they seem old enough to be experienced.
- You have to ask for a password for the WiFi and only for 30 minutes (paid in the rooms, free at the lobby)
- The room was ok
- The breakfast was poor, not much choice, the waiters are not friendly at all and always looking angry like they are obliged to wake up and go to work!
- The hotel location is good
- When we checked out I forgot my Blackberry Bold 9900 at my room, and when I called them to check it and keep it aside I was told that there is nothing in the room! I was sure it was there because I have turned off the alarm when we woke up and removed it from the charger but I forgot it when we were packing the luggage near the bed!

That's my story with this Hotel... I'm glad we enjoyed Barcelona but not Avenida Palace!

Dear Traveler,
First of all thank you for choose the Avenida Palace Hotel at your last stay in Barcelona.
We regret very much what happened with your Blackberry, our staff is our total confidence and I don't think that they rob you your phone. If you tell me which dates you were at the hotel and your room nº, I will personally try to see if there is some forgotten objects and who were cleaning your room, this information will be very important for us to clarify this situation.
We regret much that the behaviour of our staff was not to your expectations all the time, I personally shall that not happen again.
When we have high occupancy we do our best to give our customers their rooms as soon as posible but the check out time is at 12h and we have to clean up 151 rooms, if we have the rooms available and clean before 16h, we usually give them before.
The check in time at 16h is an international standard in all the hotels worldwide with the aim to guarantee the rooms for the customers aside of the hotel standards.
I hope we can welcome you once again on your next visit to Barcelona, you can email me jtomas@husa.es and I personally will take care about your stay.
I remain for any further assistance you may need.

Sincerely

Having read some reviews on Tripadvisor about this hotel I did have some concerns but I didn't have to worry about them. I emailed that I would be arriving late and once I arrived, my parents and myself were checked through very quickly. I had requested that my room be on the same floor as my parents and it was directly across from them which I was happy with. I did request a quite room either on the 3 or 4 floor. I was a bit put out that we were put on the 8th floor but the location was perfect as it was very quite. The only thing that I may suggest is that there could be tea facitilites in the rooms.
The staff were very friendly and very helpful with any questions I had. There is many choices for breakfast.
I would definietly go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: For a quite room, I would suggest the 8th floor

The Hotel Avenida Palace is a class act from the doorman--dressed in top hat--to the spacious and comfortable rooms. The staff speaks English and other languages and is always eager to help and advise. Location, location, location--Hotel Avenida Palace is located half a block from The Catalunya Plaza, half block from Las Ramblas and all the excitement and history of Barcelona.
We were fortunate to be in Barcelona for the Saint Jordi celebration when we mingled with the natives and marveled at all the roses and book stalls. The hotel is convenient to the subway and within walking distances of many of the marvels of Gaudi.
The last advantage happens when one finally decides to break with the lovely city and make a move to the airport. The express aerobus to the airport (5.90 Euros) is a long block away and drops one with his luggage at the appropriate airport terminal in just thirty minutes. I'd definitely recommend this hotel if it were only for the view from the window!

Room Tip: Stay here!

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this charming hotel. I have stayed here before and was keen to return. Its in a perfect location, a couple of minutes away from Plaza Catalunya which is at the top of La Rambla. Plenty of restaurants/bars/shopping immediately outside the hotel. Ignore all the complainers and moaners. The public areas are beautiful with a magnificent intricate gold staircase. The staff were, without exception, excellent, especially the reception staff who were professional yet friendly and keen to assist in any way they could. They were efficient on checkin and helpful in recommending travel tips and restaurants (tip - they often give you a card for the restaurant and you get free cocktails or cava!!). We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a lovely corner room on the 8th floor with a view of the main street from one window and an amazing large stone terrace with views over the street and fountain below, and beyond over all Barcelona including the Sagrada Familia in the distance and the port. Fluffy bathrobes and slippers included!! Breakfast is in a large dining room, buffet service. We didn`t have the hot food but there was plenty of choice in cereals, cheeses, meat, toast, fruit, croissants etc etc. The only problem we encountered was the battery was low in the safe in our room so we were unable to open the safe. A phone call to the front desk immediately rectified this within minutes and the battery replaced. Travellers - do not hesitate to stay here - you will not be disappointed.
Tip - take the bus tours which go from Plaza Catalunya - one goes to the east and one to the west. We did the two day one and seniors get a hefty discount of 9 euros for the 2 day one! Well worth it.
Tip - Browns restaurant (recommended by the hotel) is an Italian restaurant 5 mins from the hotel. Turn left from the hotel and left again. So good we went twice!

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up with views of the street and if possible a balcony. Didn`t find it noisy at...

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at the this hotel. It's excellent location is very central to all attractions, and the fact that a metro line entrance is right outside makes everywhere very easy to get to, including the airport. Many places could be reached on foot. The staff were very friendly and welcoming from the minute we arrived. The communal areas were very ornate and clean at all times. Our room was on the seventh floor. It was spacious, with a large double bed, and again we could not fault the cleanliness. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty of choice. My only critism would be that on 2 of the mornings we went for breakfast at a very busy time and some items were a bit slow to be replenished, but once brought to the staffs attention it was quickly rectified. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would certainly stay there again when returning to Barcelona.

We spent 2 nights here having landed this hotel via Priceline bidding at about $100 USD per night inclusive of taxes. It's primary charm is it's outstanding location a 90 second walk from Placa Catalunya and La Rambla. The public rooms are well kept, but the stairway carpeting on the rooms-access stairs is threadbare on the risers. The front desk service ranged from civil but fumblingly inept, to somewhat snarly. Customer service is not the forte of this establishment nor are the front desk personnel problem solvers. However, the bed linens are absolutely lovely and luxurious, and the room was pleasant and well kept. I would stay here again because of the location, but if I ran the place, I would send my employees to a rigorous customer service training.

The hotel is located close to Plaza Catalunya and in proximity with Las Ramblas. The staff is extremely friendly, always with good advice on restaurants and Tapas food. Also, helpful with suggesting places to visit and when, so as to avoid rush hours with tourists. The room was clean and well maintained. we came for a week, with a brek of one day to visit an out-of-town location, and the hotel kept our luggage in storage.
