Just returned from a Saturday to Saturday stay booked through go-today. Chose the least expensive hotel option based on previous review here and viewing the choices on the website. To give some perspective, we are a married couple in our fifties who can afford to stay in a pricey hotel, but as our point in traveling is to see the country, not the room, we don't see the point in spending our money that way. Our package, including Air France flights from Boston (air supplement for weekend travel), hotel room, breakfast each morning, and travel insurance, was $1,976 for the two of us.
The hotel is outside the touristy area of the city but very conveniently located near the Sants Estacio train and metro stations. Train right from the airport to Sants is covered by a metro card. We found it cost effective and convenient to buy a T-10, which is sharable and costs 6 Euros. It was very easy to find and walk to the hotel from the station and to catch the metro wherever we wanted to go. We liked being away from the noisy part of town when we wanted to sleep. The staff seemed very friendly and helpful, though we are very low maintenance in that regard.
The room was decent sized, very clean and newly decorated. The beds were twins pushed together to form a king-sized sleeping area, a negative in our estimation since we prefer one bed. They were, however, firm and comfortable. The bathroom was large, clean, bright, and completely tiled. The shower had plenty of hot water and good pressure. Toiletries provided included very good shampoo, shower gel, lotion, and glycerin soap. There were also a very nice comb, shaver and little shave cream, toothbrush and little toothpaste. All of these were replaced daily if they were used at all, as were the package of Smints and the chocolates that were left each night. If you require the usual plastic shower cap, sewing kit, and hair conditioner, you should pack these. The hairdryer in the bathroom worked very well. TV in room, not much in English -- but we weren't there to watch TV.
Breakfast was a very extensive buffet including breads and pastries, spreads including butter and a wide assortments of jams and pates, fresh fruit, dairy products such as yogurt, flan, soy-based versions, and some others unfamiliar to us, cereal, assorted meats and cheeses, little baguette sandwiches, coffee and tea, and the best orange juice we have ever tasted. We could also order, at no extra charge, eggs and bacon, omelettes, or french toast. Everything was good.
All of that being said, the hotel is still undergoing renovations. We were not bothered at all by noise, but the entrance, lobby, and the sitting room leading to the elevators were obviously under construction and not very attractive. That first impression worried us until we saw our room and the breakfast area, which were lovely and complete. If you require a lounge area, you will be disappointed.
Other tips. The lights in the room don't work until you insert your key card in a slot by the light switches just inside your room, marked by a light and easy to find once you know what to do. We also found that our key card didn't work twice during the week, we suspect because the construction work might have interrupted the electricity and cancelled it out. Minor annoyance that a quick trip to the desk fixed.
We would definitely stay here again.
