“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

The location of Husa was great. It is in the center of catalunya square, very close to La Rambla and famous Gaudi buildings. Nearest metro station is just one minute waiking distance from the Husa. Honestly It would be 3 star hotel not 4 star but anyway its worth stay there.

I stayed there twice - 3 days and 5 days. The hotel is 1/2 block from Placa de Catalunya, a famous plaza with a huge fountain. The airport bus (downstairs in the airport terminal) ends at this plaza. I paid 5.65 Euros each way. The best way from and to the airport, I believe. Many cafes are around the plaza. The location is perfect for walking to many attractions including the very famous Gaudi buildings. The hotel is clean and the double room is large. I traveled as a single but on the second stay I was given a double room for the same price. I didn't eat in the hotel. The outside cafes were enjoyable in the morning and a restaurant called El Glop which is only a few doors away from the hotel had great food at lower prices for dinner.

The Husa Barcelona is an average hotel with pleasant staff and perfectly good for a city-break where you are only looking for a place to sleep as the room is comfortable.
There is no lobby, no bar, and a breakfast room which acts as almost a common-room during the day.
The lifts weren't working properly during our stay.
The location was good situated off the Plaza Catalunya, almost at the top of the La Rambla and just beside where you can pick up the Airport Bus and also the sightseeing buses. (Well worth a trip on the Blue line).
There is good shopping in the vicinity too.
I cannot comment on the breakfast as we didn't have it.

Travelers should be aware that in Spain, Hotel ratings do not mean anything. The Husa Barcelona would be a 2 Star property anywhere else in Europe. In Spain, it has a 4 Star rating.
Here is why I rate it 2 star;
1) Total Reception area is 3 meters by 2.5 meters.
2) Extremely poor insulation in rooms - you hear every word spoken in adjacent rooms.
3) Poor maintenance - lights not working, phone in room not working, door lock to close room from inside does not work.
4) Shabby, scratched furniture and old bathrooms.

Room Tip: You cannot get a good room on the Husa Barcelona. The comments I make refer to an Executive Room...

Hotel Husa Barcelona is a good hotel, and centrally located. Near Placa de Catalunya (so metro and bus at walking distance). From this hotel, you can walk around the heart of the city center. Shops, bars and restaurants...everything very close to this hotel. The rooms are good and clean. Friendly people at the reception. We really liked this hotel. The only thing that can be a problem, is for disabled travellers: you have to go up some steps at the main entrance and the elevators are a bit small (so not the best option for someone who's travelling with a scootmobile or wheelchair).

Room Tip: We were lucky, we had a room with a balcony. But I think all rooms are about the same, I think they...

First time in Barcelona and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. So close to everything we wanted to do. Lots of shopping, food and activity. We were needing a place for 4, and this was one of the few that really worked for us. THe room was spacious and clean and exactly what we needed.

The staff was very friendly and all I have is good things to say.

Nice hotel, great location
Ideally situated at the just opposite the north-east corner of Plaça de Catalunya the hotel is a walking distance from several tourist attractions such as Plaça Catalunya , the Rambla, Mercat de la Boqueria, the Barri Gòtic, La Ribera & El Raval – to the south-east & south-west Casa Batllò and Casa Milà (La Pedrera) on Passeig de Gracia, Rambla de Catalunya and up to Sagrada Família (but that's quite a walk, though)- to the north-west & north-east .
If you're not into walking the main metro station of Plaça Catalunya (get the T10 ticket for 10 passages to save cash), bus stations and taxies are a 30sec walk from the hotel at the Plaça Catalunya. Likewise, the bus to and from the airport (Aerobus A1 to & from terminal T1) drops you very near to the hotel (hope off the bus and head due north, past El Corte Ingles , department store, cross the Ronda san Pedro street, and just past the two ice cream parlors to your right turn right at Carrer de Casp and you are there, a 2 min walk- Hotel Husa Barcelona, Casp 1-13, 08010 Barcelona, Tel. 93-302-58-58, hotelbarcelona@husa.es; www.husa.es , Husa is the hotel chain).
Stayed as a couple in a corner room (not overlooking the square). Room was spacious and clean. Amenities were OK. Didn't take the breakfast offer cause didn't think that with the la Boqueria market so near and the Corte Ingles department store + supermarket (on bottom floor) it's worth it – bought things and stored them in the minibar (shops closed on Sundays- as is MOST of Barcelona- take that under consideration). Staff was nice and friendly. The nearby area suggests some OK restaurants + quite a few tourist traps – consult with your favorite travel guide (like trip advisor) for details, I can make only three recommendations: Lactuca an all-you-can-eat chain (simple, basic & OK food at a reasonable price) on just around the corner from Plaça Catalunya on Rambla de Catalunya 8,Ciutat Comtal for a tapas bar on Rambla de Catalunya 18, and Udon Eixample noodle bar and restaurant on Consell de Cent 323 (WWW.UDON.es)- go for the business lunch on work days.
Didn't try but they came recommended: Bar Mut on pau Claris 192 (see review in trip advisor) & Cerveceria Catalana on C/ Mallorca, 236 - all are fairly close by (10-20min walk). Avoid the coffee house across the hotel (overpriced, mediocre at best).
Shopping wise the Ingles department store is very near buy, the Rambla, Passeig de Gracia, the gothic quarter and also a Mango outlet (on Carrer de Girona) are fairly nearby. The hotel staff can also point you to the Diagonal-Mar shopping mall and Heron City outlets (which are far from the city center but about 30min travel by metro).
Few points- a spot of wetness and mold on the ceiling near the window, the fact that the TV has no (none what so ever) channel in other than Spanish (not a single one) so if you are to get a way form it all it's OK, the walls are quite thin (at times seemed paper thin) but the next door neighbors were OK, the safe requires a key and a deposit at the front desk (why not coded?), the smoking sent that hung in the room for about two days (smoking is prohibited indoors in Bacelona, however on the streets it seems that people are smoking everywhere and anytime- at times the smoke puffs from sidewalk pedestrians where worse than the car smoke on the street).
All in all with the location, staff, room, the metro nearby, hitting the Rambla and the Boqueria market early in the morning as they open and before the pickpockets arrive or alternatively if partying all night the ease of walking back to your nearby hotel through main streets, all gain the hotel a few credits.
The price seemed fair (about 470Euro/4nights) for the location and services (try booking directly via hotel site, saved us money compared to a booking agency/online service). I'd rather not comment as to the 4 star grading as I am not familiar with the grading body- I'd rather trust independent traveling guides & the experiences of fellow travelers that have been there (some listed in trip advisor and elsewhere).
