“Great location; comfortable; more a good 3* than 4*”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Booked this hotel at the last minute and without any research. Great location - just off the Ramblas; one minute from Liceu metro; 2 minutes from the Boqueria. Hotel was fine - and would get an excellent rating if it was a 3*, but not as a 4*.
We were fortunate in getting one of the rooms in the building on Calle de Boqueria with a small balcony overlooking the street. I imagine some might be put off by the noise, but three floors up, it was fine and we slept perfectly well with the shutter windows open. Free wifi worked fine-ish.
Service was perfunctory; rooms were comfortable - beds especially so.
The hotel was let down by small things - cheap and parsimonious amenities (small shampoo, body gel, tiny cheap soap). Bathroom fittings were great, but water pressure very poor and kept shifting from hot to cold. Breakfast was extra on our room rate and not really worth it. Just ok. The courtyard was lovely to eat in, but they could do a lot more with it - and also to the internal garden. With some care, these could make this hotel a real oasis in central Barcelona.

Was really impressed by the main entrance, but when guided to our Flat Club apartments, my good impression waned. Quite a walk from the reception through the deserted lounge garden, poorly renovated staircase for 4 floors. Quite an effort to reach the reception for every little thing. The apartment was okay, especially bathrooms, climate control and free wifi. Not impressed with the micro fridge, dirty floor, pillows and the lack of kitchen tools (bottle opener anyone?). Sound isolation was also very good, while the two TVs we had were really useless with it's 15 boring channels. Need to state that beds and bathrooms were kept clean all the time. Impressed.
The hotel is supposed to be chic and design oriented, but most of the "modern" furniture pieces feel cheap and hostel-like.Breakfast was too expensive and the reception staff seemed a bit unfriendly to a set of young guys like us.
Definitely not bad, but doubt I will return for this price.

This hotel is located approximately 20 minutes from the airport by taxi. Something to note - we were told by the taxi driver that on weekends, taxis cannot enter the road directly in front of the hotel so we were dropped on La Rambla. Believe that even on regular days, the taxis do not drive right in front of the hotel as La Boqueria itself is rather narrow and any one stopping there will cause a jam. This is not a problem for most, as the hotel is just a few meters of walking from the La Rambla junction - but do note this for those who have more luggages than you can manage to pull along by yourself.

The room - we found it to be very spacious, especially the bathroom (which tends to be very small in Europe). We had the family room, which came with bunk beds (those with kids please note - it may cause gleeful excitement or groans of worries of safety as the top bed has no side railings). Sleep quality is good but the pillows seriously need more fluff though this was solved by asking for extra ones. Minimalist, and quirky designs in the room - no complains there but do note that there is no kettle or coffee/tea facilities in the room. Sound proofing in the room is excellent - you cannot hear any noise from the neighbouring rooms, except when the other guests are standing outside their doors and chatting. Once inside, not a sound can be heard and this I find to be outstanding given how many hotels have problems with this.

We did not have breakfast in the hotel but there are so many choices around the hotel that there is no need to have breakfast there in any case.

Location is simply perfect. Minutes away from Mercat La Boqueria and Plaza Reial. Walking distance to Museo Picasso and the Waterfront area. Just meters away from the Liseu Metro. It is so great to be able to have a quiet night's sleep and yet be able to walk just a few steps on to La Rambla.

Staff did not seem particularly friendly but when asked to assist with taxi bookings - it was done efficiently and without any problems.

A small grouse with a hotel that prides itself on the high technology it offers - the wifi was flawless in the reception area but was flaky in the room. Depending on your devise, it was at most at 1 bar, sometimes at none. Connections dropped frequently too. Yes, there is a laptop in the room which has pretty fast broadband as it was operating on the LAN network but it is a Spanish style keyboard and in any case, most guests would have their own laptop or devices they would want to use the wifi for. The safe deposit box should probably also be revamped or maintained better as it seemed to inconsistently be able to read our credit card that was required to open or close the box.

Still, a pleasant stay and recommended especially for its location and overall sleep quality

we enjoyed the perfect location
the room was good, but too small for our familly (2 adults + 2 teens).
breakfast was expensive but the room rate was more than fare.
we would be glad to come back as a couple

Room Tip: we were not aware that the children beds are two storey

Plus points: Reception staff, friendly and helpful (top marks to young guy in glasses, Juan). Breakfast, very good. Range of pastries, fruit, cold meat, cereal. Some hot food but if you want an English breakfast (why would you?), you may wish to try Barking or Barnstaple rather than Barcelona!
Location: Excellent. Barri Gothic on doorstep, Barcellonetta short walk away, Las Ramblas 25 yards (but best avoided; tourist trap), shopping nearby, good transport links to all areas.
Not so good things: Room decor poor. Our room had off white wall and off white ceiling. Combined with off white bed linen, - not a good look. Pictures on walls would have been nice. Is the 'decor' meant to be chic? If so it fails.
Housekeeping: Sadly this was poor. eg We had to ask for pillows for the beds. There was a courtesy bar of soap for our use when we arrived. It was taken away the second day and not replaced. A small thing buit we were left wondering why (however, Barcelona has attractions which outweigh the disappearance of hotel
soap).
Not sure about the provision of a laptop. My guess is that these day most, if not all travellers will have a smart phone and/or a tablet with them. The laptop seems a little 2005.
TV. Limited range of English speaking channels, Bloomberg and the ever boring BBC World. But hey, we weren't there to watch television.
Overall what this hotel has going for it is its location and the helpful staff. For the price we may consider this hotel again. However, we have been to classier, albeit pricier, 'boutique' hotels in central Barcelona.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the first floor.

The owners of this hotel chain think Ikea = cool-designer chic when in fact it makes what could be a great hotel cheap. How can you have a 4 star hotel without a bar and a vending machine in the lobby in place of coffee/tea making in-room? I was pleased to see that most previous comments about this hotel had been replied to by the hotel which is always a good sign, but the fact is that none of the comments/recommendations had been actioned! Our initial room had no loo seat upon arrival, just a pile of tools where the handyman was in the middle of fixing it. Upon fixing an oval seat onto a square bowl and resealing the shower (lot of sealant smell), we decided to ask for a new room, which was better but so minimal. One sheet, one foam pillow each, one tiny soap for the 3 days the photos show my wife trying to use the hair dryer that had a metre too short flex on it, so limbo hair drying and a chaffed flex showing separate wires in a bathroom! In short much too expensive for what you get.

Room Tip: try not to get 403 as the folded up bunk beds in the corner of the room give it a school dormitory f...

A medical emergency enabled the always attentive staff to demonstate its full competence.
The desk staff are helpful, and the breakfast is generous and refreshed for late risers.
A lap top is available in the rooms, or you can supply your own for free hifi
The hotel is a good conversion of a n interesting shell.
Breakfast in a sunny courtyard is an available option

Room Tip: Breakfast only, which is an advantage
