“Gem with top service, friendly and lovely rooms!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Why you would ever want to stay in a hotel when you can stay in a beautiful Barcelona apartment, with such personal and friendly service. That extra little touch on everything! From the nicely decorated rooms to the prettily set breakfast table in the mornings, and the warm reception by Marcelo and his staff made you feel right at home. So much more personal than a hotel stay. Yet all the comfort you would expect in a good hotel. Marcelo's casa is in a perfect location close to the beach and in the cosy neighbourhood of El Borne, where you most likely want to spend your time anyway. Lots of nice restaurants, bars and boutiques. I'm returning!

A tiny bit difficult to find - call when you are nearby and Marcelo will help you with the last bit - this elegant B&B is in a great location at the bottom of the Gothic quarter. The rooms - we had two - were both stylish and the beds were large and comfortable. The communal areas were a great blend of modern and classic furniture and art.

Breakfast at the large dining table had tasty fruit and bread, with the helpful staff on hand to provide juice and hot drinks.

The only downsides are the shared bathrooms and the fact that the rooms can be very hot. There are fans in the rooms, but it's not the same as air conditioning. Overall though I would happily stay here again on my next trip to this great city.

My wife and I selected Casa de Marcelo based upon the location and value. What we did not realize was what a gem we had actually selected. The B&B is spotless and beautifully decorated, and Marcelo goes out of his way to make sure you are comfortable in all aspects. He graciously walks you through tour and sight seeing options as well as providing spot on restaurant suggestions. The B&B is located in the historic Gothic area, near the beaches as well as numerous shopping and restaurants. Partly because of the location, it can be a little tough trying to sleep. We had an early flight on Saturday morning, and the general revelry below was loud. Other than that, this is an outstanding B&B!

My daughter and I truly enjoyed our 5 nights stay at Casa Marcelo. The inn is well-kept, clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. Marcelo is the perfect host, patiently explaining everything from directions to local customs. Great restaurants, shops, the beach, and many of the best sights of Barcelona are all within walking distance. I definitely hope to return to Casa Marcelo!

We stayed at Casa de Marcelo with our two children for 3 nights before heading off on a cruise. Our entire family thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Casa and in Barcelona. Marcelo and Olivier were such gracious hosts. They went out of their way to ensure that we made our way to the B&B with ease and then to the cruise terminal at the end of our stay. The rooms were immaculate, the breakfast fantastic (Nick was always on hand with a smile and a great cup of coffee) and the location was outstanding. We walked everywhere and even had a chance to swim at the beach which is a mere 10 minute walk away. I would highly encourage anyone wanting to explore Barcelona to stay at this B&B. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: We needed two rooms as we were with our children. Rooms 3 and 4 are close together and worked perfe...

I stayed at this B&Bt for four nights. First of all, the owner, Marcelo was very welcoming, he immediately made me feel at home. The B&B is very well located, in the Gothic area, close to many historic buildings, restaurants, shops, within walking distance to the beach and park. The building itself is historic and beautiful. The rooms are very clean and the staff is very attentive. Breakfast is simple but good; coffee, toast, jam and fruit. Marcelo and his staff are always ready to answer any questions, give you ideas of where to go and basically help you with anything you need.
The only reason I am not giving an excellent rating is because the room did not have air conditioning and unfortunately I was there the week Barcelona had very hot days, it was hard to sleep with just the fan in the room, but I assume that most of the year, this is not an issue. I would definitely stay at La Casa de Marcelo again.

Room Tip: A room with private bathroom is convenient.

We stayed at this great little BAB for a long weekend which went much to quick!
We had no problem finding the hotel as they provided written directions in Spanish that I could give to the taxi driver. The taxi driver stopped round the corner and took us to the hotel. The area it is in is pedestrinised. There is not a sign outside just a lovely old wooden door within a door and a bell.

We had a warm welcome and could go straight to our room even though we had arrived early.
We had the front balcony room en suite that entered directly into the dining area. It was a great traditional room and looked down into a lovely shady car free road. The main road is very near but we had no problem at night with noise as there were old wooden shutters on the window. There was a great Italian/Spanish restaurant just beneath us. The food there was fantastic.
The room was comfortable, clean and plenty of hot water and a good shower, we were very happy with the room.

Location
For us it was just perfect in the quaint traditional area, car free and full of great tavernas, a great relaxing place with no loud discos, just historic buildings and welcoming tapas bars and a easy to stroll around district. Just lovely. It was also a stone’s throw from the harbour front and a short stroll to the main tourist points of interest.
There is a fridge in the small kitchen area which you can use to keep your own drinks in and it also has wine, water other drinks in there , just write down what you have had and pay when you leave.
I did want to give the B&B a score of five but felt the breakfast was a disappointment taking into account its price range. The setting for breakfast was just outside our door and had a lovely shared table and chandelier above. It looked lovely. We were offered coffee and we waited for cereal, ham cheese but realised it was just the toaster in the corner and some bread for you to make yourself. With strawberry jam and butter on the table. There was a fruit bowl in the middle of the table but no yogurt or anything to go with it. Sadly it is the poorest breakfast I have had in a B&B including free complimentary ones.
With that in mind I would stay here again.
