“Cheap, connected, convinient”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

Top 3 criteria for me while booking:
1) Of course budget! Ours for this trip was 50 to 80 euros per night for a double room
2) Proximity of accommodation to a Metro station (has to be within 5-10mins walkable distance!) which is well-connected to the rest of the attractions in the city
3) And how safe is its location for 2 girls new to the city
Residencia Salesiana fit the bill.
Rooms: At barely 55euros per night for 2 persons which included breakfast, it was a good bargain since all we needed was a place to sleep and clean-up. Room and toilet were clean with a desk, chair, cupboards, and clean towels in the bathroom. We were aware that housekeeping was performed once every 3 days, a slight discomfort. Our room looked down at basketball court where kids would come down every evening, and a beautiful view of mountains which we woke-up and slept to each day.
Location: 10mins walk from Metro station (backpacker’s disclaimer: the road steeps down and climbs up), the university is easy to locate. This station can be taken to many attractions in half an hour more or less. The university ground feels very safe, and is situated at a beautiful location. Finding a restaurant nearby wasn’t very easy though. We walked quite a bit in every direction possible but couldn’t find a place for a meal or even a snack. May be we weren't looking right. There’s a place near station where you can have drinks.
Service: Staff was on rotation so it’s really your luck who’s at the desk that day. On our first day, there was a really helpful guy who seeing us just sitting around in the garden, informed (or rather insisted enthusiastically) that we go for the light-show event at La Sagrada, special for La Merceˊ. God bless him!
Breakfast hall is big, of course built like a university cafeteria. Breakfast spread was fair.

Very unique accommodations (dorm room but with a private bath). I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved staying there! Beautiful park like grounds and buildings. Quiet, secure area. Not a lot of traffic in the area. Some noise until 10:00 p.m. with kids playing soccer and basketball, but quieted down at bedtime, so no issue with that. Friendly, helpful reception staff. All you can eat breakfast was good---croissants, rolls, sliced meat, cheese, cookies, cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee, tea. Beds had toppers on them and I can honestly say that out of all 4 hotels I stayed at during my trip, the twin beds with toppers were the most comfortable. Reception recommended 2 restaurants very close to hotel---Spanish Tapas and Chinese. Food was good at both places. Free parking in the Residencia lot, so it was easy access for unloading and loading luggage. A gate secures the area, so they will let you in and out of property at the touch of a button...Would stay there again.

As long as we were staying in Barcelona during Formula 1, all the more or less all the cheap hotels had been already taken, so we found this one which is not an actual Hotel, but a Resedence.
They have a nice and lovely park, another building for breakfasts (we had to eat the same one 6 days in a row, and to be honest it was TOO poor...)
The rooms are very cheap, and probably if you're looking for a place to live for several days in Barcelona - it's a nice option, pretty close to the Metro station (around 10 min walk) and around 15 min until the centre of the city.
The rooms as the building itself NEED tobe rebuilt or at least repared. Very old, separated beds in a room which were making horrible sounds during the night (it was practically impossible to fall asleep as we were constanly listening to our neighbours turning over their beds).
They were clean, though.

We visited Barcelona for five days and basically used the hotel as somewhere to sleep at night and nothing more. I would definatly recommend this hotel for doing just that but its not really suitable if you're going to be spending a lot of time in the hotel.
The rooms are very basic but clean and the breakfast was terrible, however the gardens around the hotel are lovely especially the ponds with the turtles swimming around in.
The hotel is based outside of the city centre but the metro stop is a short 3mins walk away and then its only a 10minute ride and your strolling along the Las Ramblas!
Overall its a good hotel for the price, just skip the breakfast as there are plenty of gorgeous places in barcelona to pick up a reasonably priced breakfast.

The room we stayed in was small with ancient steel spring beds. No air conditioning, so be warned for summer. From the views of beautiful gardens we were hoping for a quiet night: not the case, groups roaming around, and neighbouring guests movements heard all the time.
Although breakfast was adequate, and the place seemed safe, we could not wait to get out. No room service, unfrendly staff. Do not stay there.

We were in Barcelona for 4 days and we stayed at this... Hotel.
Well, to start with the good ones, it is in a very beautiful garden, full of flowers an statues. Benches and trees, were you can lie on the grass.
The rooms are really small and old. The mattresses are awful!
The worst part is the stuff was totally impolite and not helpful at all. They lost (!) our key to our room, no cleaning service was provided (but this was something that we find out at the time of checking in).
The metro station is not very far but it is a big slope so, an evening we asked the receptionist if we could call for a taxi to take us to a metro station. It was our last night there and we wanted to save time. He suggested that the taxi price is not very high and that it is better for us to take taxi until the end of our destination, and not metro at all. It is far away from the city centre!
He said that he called for a taxi at 8.00 and we were waiting for 55 minutes!!! While we were waiting, we tried to contact the reception but he was not answering! Finally, when the taxi arrived, I asked him about the delay and he show me in the receipt the time that he was called. It was 8.46!! And the bonus... the "small price" that we had to pay for the taxi to the city center, was 19 euro! Sorry but for us, this is not a small price at all!
The restaurant in the residence has a breakfast with one bread and one croissant with ham and cheese and you can only take one of each. We were about 15 people in our group and 2 of them were vegetarians. The organizers had to asked every day for the veggie dishes that they already have paid, an from the 4 days, only one vegetarian meal were served!
Definitely not going back there again.
