“A very pleasant wedding anniversary vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2010

Our stay at the Catelonia Catedral was a very good experience.
The hotel, perfectly situated in the most attractive part of old city, is a good starting point for visiting the many attractions of Barcelona, as well as touristic excursions in Catalonia.
The rooms are spacious, confortable and well kept.
We mostly appreciated the serviability and competence of the staff, especiually of the front desk.
We had a wonderful 35th weddding anniversary in Barcelona.

The hotel Catedral is brand new and everything about it is a pleasure: the rooms are beautifully decorated in black and white although not overly large. It is very stylish and modern. The comfortable beds come with so many pillows that we put most of them in the cupboard. There is a big desk, a minibar, coffee maker and even decorative pottery on the shelf. Internet is free. The bathroom is big with thick soft towels. Could not possibly be better than that.
There is a small reception on the bottom floor and then you take the lift to the first floor where the lobby is situated and from there you take the elevators to the rooms. A bit strange but nice because it gives a feeling of privacy. The hotel is made up of 4 old buildings that have been connected and so there is a small nicely decorated courtyard in the middle.
The breakfast room was nice although service would have been better. If you like cake and pastry for breakfast you are going to enjoy it. There is also a wide choice of fresh juices, fruit pieces and the eternal spanish "jamon". If you like healthy breakfasts, you might have a problem.
And last but not least: location!!!! The hotel is situated on a pedestrian street that is just a few meters away from the cathedral in the old city (barrio gotic). Since there are no cars it is very quiet and peaceful both in the lobby and in the rooms. (Please note though that no cars will be able to let you off at the entrance). When looking for "action" you just step into the sreet: to your left is the cathedral square with restaurants, bars and coffee places (when we visited the was a huge christmas market covering most of the square).
If you turn right you get right into one of the nicest shopping streets (although there are many more places to shop). The historic area and the Ramblas are 3 minutes away.
In whichever direction you choose to go (and whatever time of day or night) you will be surrounded by people, both tourists and locals. Great as long as you remember that is is a must to keep an eye on your purse and bags -pick pocketing seems to be a great sport in Spain.

Would thoroughly recommend. Very helpful staff. Perfectly situated hotel in the Barri Gotica area...right near to the Gothic cathedral..plenty of shops, restaurants and bars nearby to keep you occupied. Lovely modern room, very clean. Breakfast was good, plenty for everyone, staff are very helpful. Would like to go back to this hotel again, soon.

Our arrival was a bit of a disappointment: both elevators were out of order. The teething troubles of a new hotel. That's when a professional and friendly management proves itself. So, after the initial problems everything was smooth sailing. Modern, clean and well equipped roomd, free wi fi and excellent breakfast.
Tip: ask for a room on one of the higher floors and at the front side. There'e a motor cycle parking situated at the back side, which might be a bit noisy in the early morning.
The hotel's location can't be better: in the Gothic Quarter, at a pedestrian street.
Next time we'll visit Barcelona we'll return the Catalonia Catedral. No doubt.

Just returned from a two night stay, the staff were all extremely polite from checking in to checking out. The hotel has just been completely modernised and hadn't been open very long so everything was very clean and fresh looking. Rooms were spacious with a large bathroom equipped with a shower and bath and the beds were very comfy (loved the pillows). Only negative point was that our room was directly above the shops below and loud music could be heard from 9.30am until 9.45pm, although we were out most of the day, this was annoying when we returned to the hotel mid afternoon for a siesta - tip, ask for a room on a higher level. We did have a drink in the bar area, and found this lacked any atmosphere since we were the only ones there, and we didn't try the hotel restaurant for the same reason, although the menu looked appealing - the waiter explained that it was very quiet due to it being a new hotel and nobody really knowing it was there yet. Would we go back again?? I'm already looking at dates!!
