“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2010

This was a beautiful hotel experience. The room had everything we needed, I especially loved the shower. Our adapter did not work very well the hotel provided us with one. Our room was not ready at 3pm as another reviewer mentioned, they got us to the bar and 60 euros later our room was ready. I think that's just a way to get you to spend, but that's how foreigners are always treated right? The pool area was amazing! The restaurants and club upstairs were not at all 5 star there are a lot pf places to eat and drink within walking distance so go for a walk and enjoy the local fare. All in all this is a great hotel it is a W Hotel at its best absolutely loved it.

Just back from 4 nights at W and we had the most amazing time. It was so relaxing lying by the fabulous pool and being waited on hand and foot. Good food in hotel and in Mellow BAr on beach below.
If you are interested in design you will love the attention to detail of this beautiful hotel.
Only thing I could fault (if pressed) is there isn't a jacuzzi and as the door and walls of the bedroom toilet and bathroom were made of glass there was zero privacy.
But if you can get to W you will not be disappointed. Though you might be surprised by naked people on the beach below!

Beautiful location, excellent breakfast, great service. We had been traveling for 24 hours when we arrived with three young children at 10 a.m. We had two rooms reserved and they were kind enough to give us one of the rooms so we could get some sleep. That was compassionate since we don't know what we would've done if we had to wait for 6 hours. We did not use the pool but it seemed crowded. It would be helpful to have a small shop with water and some Tylenol, etc. when you're traveling with kids. The view was fantastic -- the kids wanted to sleep on the couch against the window with the shades open and I said, "what the heck" and took a great picture in the middle of the night with the city lights in the background. The service was extremely attentive and the people who worked there were very polite and eager.

Gave this hotel a second chance after a botched first stay, resulting in me complaining to the manager.

This time.....Check in: was told room would be ready in 2 hours. I waited SEVEN hours to get access to my room despite several complaints and assurances.

Check out: was told I couldn't request a late check out and would need to check back on my departure date. I informed them I was entitled to this as a Platinum member + I had waited for the preceding guest to check out. Escalated to the management then told this was done, and keys were re-issued. Of course they didn't work past 12noon. Had to get them re-issued again.

Nice hotel, badly organised, staff don't know what they are doing. You really have to escalate to management here to get anything resolved. This is no longer a new hotel; they should get sort themselves out. Stressful stay.

The W is a stylish modern hotel situated by the beach. The view from the room is fabulous just picture laying in bed and opening the curtains electronically and looking directly out to sea from the luxury of your wonderfully comfortable bed. The hotel is exceptionally modern throughout. The concierge team are very helpful. They gave us a map and wrote names of vasrious tapas places to try and highlighted the best places to visit. The pool bar is great, very comfi, great service and as the evening sets in they bring out lights and cushions to transpose it into an evening bar. The bar at the top is also fantastic. We were only going to go up there for an hour for a night-cap, but ended up staying until 4am. The music was great and the guy playing the bongos whilst standing on the bar got the crowd going. The W has it's own little stretch of beach which was run by the Mellon beach club which had an efficient booking in system to reserve sun loungers. They were very comfortable and the beach service was very good.
The W is as some have said a little way away from Las Ramblas, but we didn't mind as the walk was very pleasant around 20 mins.
Barcelona is a fantastic city, lots to see. The cable car was good fun and gave you a good view of the city. The cathederal was worth seeing, but the Sagrada Familia was much better. I do agree with another reviewer that the price is excessive considering the inside is under constrcuction. The outside is the best bit and free. The magic fountain is ok, but don't look for anything other than quite a big fountain with a few lghts that change colour to music that you can barely hear. Try tapas 24, which was recommednded by the concierge, mmmm. Las Ramblas is similar to Covent Garden with many street performers and places to eat and drink, nice atmosphere. Do go to the indoor food market, wow that's what I call a market, all fresh food from sea food, hams, sweets and chocolate to fruit, dried fruit and more. Barcelona is not a cheap city though. You will pay around 50 euros for lunchtime tapas for 2 with a bottle of decent (not dead expensive) wine. A glass of beer nearly everywhere was 5 euros.
Pros - well all of the above, a modern stylish hotel with good night life, by the beach with good views out to sea, excellent staff and lovely chic rooms.
Cons - only ate 1 evening meal which was ok, but not great. The w is not a cheap hotel to eat and drink in. Havng said that if you want all of the above you have to expect to pay for it. You will pay 5 euros for an average size glass of coke on the beach. In the bar you will pay around 9 euros for a vodka and tonic. We are used to these prices as drinkining in hotels is London is quite costly, but if you are not they will seem a liitle steep.
If you want a bit of luxury then you will not be disappointed with the W.

Booked the hotel a day before checking in. The res desk did all they could to find a room in a very busy period at the last minute. The hotel lobby is one of the coolest you ll find. Room views of the barcelona beach are breathtaking. There is a really cool bar on the 22nd flr. The pool area is superb. The gym is fully equiped with all u may need.

There is not much to say - the hotel is excellent, one of the best we've ever stayed. a lot has already been written - beach, food etc. - everything great. The only small problem - for those who like to lie at the swimming pool - the chairs are occupied early in the morning. Some people (probably german tourists) put their towels on them and go away. One morning we found out that all the chairs were taken but there was no single soul at the pool. And the staff is helpless... It reminds a bit on a 2-star hotel somewhere in turkey. Apart of that - a fantastic place.
