“Mediocre Hotel in a Great Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

First, the good stuff.. The hotel was located right off the Ramblas, less than two blocks from the Liceu metro stop on the Ramblas. It was easy to find and the location couldn't have been more convenient. If you go out the door and turn right, you immediately reach one of the entrances to the Boqueria Market. That was about all that was great, however, the location.
First, I booked a room with two beds a month in advance but upon arrival they told me they could only offer me a room with one bed.. a bit of a problem since I wasn't traveling with someone I wanted to share a bed with. Secondly, they promised internet service, something I really needed for my work. There was no service in the room, the signal simply didn't reach the 6th floor so when I needed to check mail or use the web, I had to go sit in the lobby to do it.
Lastly, the air conditioner didn't really cool the room much at all, no matter how much I tried to adjust the temp control. The lobby is very cool but the room was stuffy and not properly cooled, which was a problem on a 92 degree day. Lastly, a minor thing but an irritation, the TV remote didn't work. I took it downstairs and the desk clerk replaced one battery only so the next day, it didn't work again. The staff wasn't particularly helpful and didn't seem interested in helping out much. When I asked about the a particular area and whether they were having fiestas, instead of helping to find out, she just handed me a map. There are many nice hotels in this area and its hard to believe this one is really worth what they charge.

Room Tip: If you need internet service, try a lower floor.

great location, couple of minutes away from Sagrada Familia and a local (quite big) supermarket, metro station and obviously centre of the town. nicely kept hotel, a little hard to find to start with, lovely and clean room; had no breakfast there so cannot comment on the quality of the food; I don't even know if there's at all a breakfast room there.. hmm... I'm pretty sure there's a gym and a swimming pool right next door.

Hotel Hesperia Ramblas is not a bad hotel at all. Even good located in the heart of the city, which is very convinient. 20 minutes walking distance to the beach and clubs, 5 minutes to the most famous streets and squares (shops) and 20 minutes walking to Sagrada Familia. This is great. Even prices are not so bad. But it has some negatives too. First: awful air condition. So strong, that I was afraid, that I'm gonna get sick ! And this was every day. Second: hotel is more black and white then I would like. No cool warm tones. Which doesn't give me too much of a good feeling I should have, if I sleep somewhere. Rooms fine, clean, maybe the bed could be better, but for the price ok. Without breakfeast - which is something, I don't quite understand either. It is a basic thing in modern world. Hotel was in romantic street with romantic feeling, but hotel wasn't romantic at all. More like business hotel, but not for street like this. View very bad - I was watching some laidy on the balcony just 3 meters from my window on the other side of the street ! What ? :). No fitness, no jacuzzi, no pool. Nothing.

Second time we have stayed here. We chose again for the excellent location and after a good experience first time round. Hotel is set just off La Ramblas down Carre de Hospital or Hospital Street as we call it. It's around half way down La Ramblas on the right if you're walking from Placa Catalunya, so is in an excellent location, right in the heart of things but set back enough to avoid too much noise. Hotel was very clean as we remembered it last time with everything in room you would need. Bathroom was good but last time we had a big walk in shower and this time a bath with a shower over that was ok but not as good. Fab air con. Lifts are brilliant, was on high floor and never had to wait when either up or down. This is a hotel you literally get ready and sleep at, so it's fab if that's all you're looking for. It's a bit like a Premier Inn or Travelodge where you know what you're going to get each time. Will stay again as it's a clean and modern place and a good price for the location.

Tip: Don't get a taxi from the aiport, get an Aero bus that are right outside the airport doors. Stops are announced in different languages and you need to get off at Placa Catalunya which is the big square at top of La Ramblas. It's only 5 euros each or you can get a return to use within 9 days, which is 9.95 euros.

Tootling about: Best on foot but do go on an open top bus tour, they are fab value. My tip is to go on one when they first start in the morning around 9am, it's not as busy then and not as hot on top deck if you're there during summer. If you're a football fan, a tour of Nou Camp stadium is well worth it.

Room Tip: High floor to avoid noise.

it was my second time here, we loved that it was so close to Rambla and Bari Gothic...plus 20m away from Liceu subway. Great room facing a narrow street goring to La Boqueria, bit noisy in the night but I am Latin so a night without a passionate lover having a fight is a bit strange to me :) Loved the bed, and the shower and the nice natural Orange soaps....so so nice, and the front desk team was super helpful with any question we had around sightseeing and getting around. Rate was ok too, given that it was high season. Will surely come back :)

Very close to the heart - and to the Metro - of Barcelona, not the safest possible area, but very good for visiting the city.
Excellent breakfast, kind receptionists. Would choose it again should I decide to visit the city in greater detail.

Room Tip: Higher floors less risk of noise, but windows are very well insulated.
