“acceptable budget option in the center”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2011

With no other hotels in Barcelona to compare, I can only say what you get in HLG Citypark is acceptable, if you are ready for a budget experience. I would be more happy if the price was lower - initially I booked for 56EUR per night which I recon would be a fair price, but I had to change the dates though and the price went up to 76EUR per night. Breakfast was included, but given the fact that the coffee was simply disgusting and the choice quite poor, plus, just a few steps outside the hotel there was a choice of coffee shops where you could get crossaint and espresso for 1,60EUR...I would re-consider the need to book a room with a breakfast anywhere in Barcelona. Just FYI, the hotels usually charge around 12EUR for the breakfast. In any coffee shop, you can get the same amount of food (e.g. a sandwich, of english breakfast set) for around 5EUR with a coffee. On the same street there are many more hotels, so if you are considering HLG because of the location, there is much more to choose from.
Otherwise, the staff was friendly, the room small but quite clean, the sleep was undisturbed by any major noise (room 410) but on extremely flat pillows (just fold them in half)... the location was good, but if I was to choose again I would look for something in Bari Gothic area, much more charm out there.

We stayed in the hotel for 4 nights in Nov 2010. Had visited Barcelona before and stayed in a hotel 3 doors down, so wanted same location. It is a 2 minute walk from Placa de Catalunya, where the airport bus stops. The staff at checkin are very friendly and helped us with any questions about the city. Our room was on the 2nd floor and situated on the corner of the hotel. Some people may find it a bit small, but for us it was perfect as we were out all day sightseeing. The bed was comfortable, ample storage space, air conditioning, and there was also a TV and safe in the room. We found the fridge in the room a blessing for keeping bottles of water and snacks in. The bathroom was a good size, with a bath and shower, and it was spotlessly clean. Breakfast at the hotel was continental. There was a good selection of cereal, bread & delicious pastries as well as cheese, meats, yoghurt, fruit, etc. Dining area small and basic, but there was plenty of food for an ample breakfast. I would definitely stay in the hotel again. The location is perfect - 5 min walk from top of Las Ramblas, and it is much cheaper than many hotels in the vicinity. I would rate it as a good 3 star hotel.

We recently spent a weekend at this hotel. The location was very good - close to the Unversity and La Rambla. The cost was very reasonable making this a good value. There were a number of inexpensive locations for breakfast nearby. However, the rooms were very small and there was a good amount of street noise so that should be taken into consideration for those who might be bothered by that. Also Internet is only available in the lobby.

We stayed here during our European honeymoon between Christmas & NYE in 2007. We were coming from a very bad hotel stay in Dublin, so my expectations & spirits were pretty low. I'll admit that upon walking into the tiny lobby, I didn't get an excellent first impression, and worried that it was going to be more of the same. Fortunately, when we got off the lift and walked into our room, I was very pleasantly surprised!

I will say that I think we had one of the biggest rooms in the hotel (the rounded, corner room with a whole wall full of windows), according to the emergency evacuation floor plan, so that could make a difference. But, we were very happy with our room, and it instantly made us excited about our trip once again.

We were out exploring Barcelona most of the time, but we were always happy to return back to the room at the end of each day. It was safe, quiet, and clean. We were really surprised at how quiet the room was even though all of our windows faced out on the corner of the street which was a very heavy traffic area & right across from the University. We rarely heard any road or horn noise. We also appreciated the free breakfast (although, the breakfast room feels like a dungeon) & espresso machine each morning. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was fine for a free light meal.

The front desk staff was really helpful. I came down with a bad cold while we were staying there, and they explained how to find (and use) the Farmacias there. They also directed us on how to get to La Rambla (which is only a few blocks away), Parc Guell, and the nearby Open Top Bus Tour stop.

The ideal location, clean, modern rooms, and low price (in comparison to surrounding hotels) makes this a hidden gem. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

A good choice in an area dominated by much more expensive hotels.
The location is great, 5 minutes from Placa Catalunya, the heart of Barcelona, and one end of La Rambla.
Modern furniture, a very nice hardwood floor imitation which entices to cleanliness.
Our room, 408, a triple, had a nice a bathroom with a window, that can be opened allowing for quick steam and smell elimination.
The 2 single beds were very good, but the third bed, a single sofa bed, would not be comfortable for an adult. It also makes the room quite small, when extended for use, but if you only use the room to sleep and wash, as we did, it is OK.
I would emphasize again the CLEANLINESS, the bed linen is spotless white, as the towels. There are no rugs, a plus from a health point of view, just plain shiny laminate floors.

The hotel is very well situated, just in few minutes from Plaça de Catalunya. The staff is very kind and helpful. The rooms are small, but very clean. There’s a central air-condition system in the hotel & it’s very hot in the rooms; of course, you can open a window, but before you should ask for a special key at the reception (however it’s quite noisy outside).Good luck & enjoy your stay in Barcelona!!

What a great place. Just a few hundred yards from the rambla,s. Hotel was only 2 star but the cleanliness would put many others to shame. Rooms are spacious cleaned every day with new towels.I can honestly say iI could recommendthis hotel to anyone. Breakfast only but your in baca to experience the city and quisine of the plentiful eateries.
The city tour bus beginns its journey right outside the hotels doors. Just ask for the hotel you will not be dissapointed
