This budget hotel is atrocious. A good location, but difficult to find as there is no signage. We went to the hotel, but the woman at the front desk (who claimed she knew no English) said (in Spanish to me) that my booking does not exist (although Hotels.com confirmed it to me 3 days prior). "Tengo una problema", she said, explaining that the hotel was completely full, but they had no record of my booking, and furthermore accused Hotels.com of probably never providing it and I should go and query them. Unbeknownst to us, it turned out we were in Barcelona for one of the busiest festivals (La Mercè) of the year and the city is always full of conferences. Amazingly, no hotel rooms were available anywhere else and we were told rates were running 3 times higher than normal. Since I had booked 2 months in advance via the website, I believe this pension simply voided my reservation (without6 informing either me, nor Hotels.com) to sell it to a higher paying, walk-in guest. The cheek to shift blame to the hotels website is galling, since I heard the night manager trying to call around for other hotels with vacancies and she mentioned my name and knew my stay dates although she had not kept posession of my printed confimation. She eventually found another pension for us which she explained would only be a €5 ride away, but on exiting and showing the place she advised us to a taxi, the cabbie said this new place is 40mins away (in a different town) and would be €75 euro trip each way.
The management of this hotel is completely dishonest and have tried to blame Hotels.com to cover their greedy tracks and will ignore bookings when it suits them. In the end, we eventually had to wander around for 2 hours until we found a 4* hotel that agreed to free up a room for the night. I try to avoid chains, but have learnt an expensive and stressful lesson, so if you do book here, then you've been warned!
