“Lunch with the seagulls”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

The restaurant is in the restored warehouses down at the waterfront. It is opposite the Museum of Catalunya. Food was good. Staff seemed to be from the Philipines.

“Location Good, Food Only Okay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

We stopped to eat here as they advertised 4 types of Paella and its location was great. Our shared starter of Tempura Prawns was plentyful, the batter light and prawns very fresh. Unfortunately our Paellas were not very good ,had little flavour and definately no saffron. The bread ,which we didn't eat, was hard enough to use as a leathal weapon!
I wouldn't go back. We had nicer meals in less aucpicious surroundings. Also arguing waiters and not having the heaters on when its very chilly didn't help.

“Rip off for tourists”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

This restaurant looked lovely and had good menu. It also had outdoor heaters so we sat outside. Unfortunately when asked twice to put heaters on this did not happen. Waiter said he was okay. Starter of calamari was substandard. Complained but told it was not tempura when explained batter was soft and calamari chewy. Swordfish was lovely but it was impossible to cut through carrots and broccoli. I like my veg al dente but this was ridiculous. Service poor. Felt total rip off. Stay away.

“Exciting locale, overpriced food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

After reading so much about Barceloneta, we had to see the area. The first restaurant along the walkway is La Gavina. Its location is ideal.

Alas, it must be a victim of its success. There were so many people queuing for a table and the average time must be 20 minutes.

It was May 1st, a public holiday, and the Germans were in town for the previous night football finals between Munich and Barcelona, which Munich had won both at home and away.

Anyway Plaza Pau Vila was crowded and swirling with locals and tourists, trying to figure which restaurant to queue at. We did the same thing finally picking La Gavina because it was the only one with proper large sun shades.

Service was awfully slow, though friendly enough. There was an awful lot of waiting time.

We queued at 3:10pm and waited 20 mins for a table, 5 mins for the menu, 5 mins to order drinks, 10 mins for them to arrive, 10 mins more for waiter to take our lunch order, 20 mins for mussels and bread to arrive, another 15 mins for fried calamari to arrive, 10 mins for another order of drinks to arrive, and finally at 5pm our main course, seafood paella arrived.

The waiter apologised and said that the kitchen was inundated with huge orders for paella. Between the time our order was taken and the time our main course came, there was a gap of 60 mins.

Thanks goodness, we were not ravenous that day. The bread helped. And since we had the paella so late, it became early dinner for us. And we thought we were only there for a late lunch.

Despite the waiting time, we did enjoy the meal and people watching. When we finally finished our lunch it was almost 5:30pm and the crowd had dissipated, and there were many empty tables. It would have been a good time to have come for early dinner. But then, I understand the Spanish dine very late and the place would be swamped again at about 8-8:30pm.

The food was expensive compared to what we pay in La Rambla and Ciuta Della. I suppose one has to pay for the ambience of a marina locale.

“Worth every cent and perfectly delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

This is THE restaurant to be at the harbor of Barcelona on a warm evening. We were there for the 2nd time and although food is expensive, wine and sparkling wine "Cava" is very cheap compared to Germany. As we returned for the 3rd time for lunch this time and just my husband and I, the staff was more than familiar and friendly to us.
